Can drive upside down, can fly, jump, do kickflips, and do 0-60 in less than 1-second.

Bonkers! laugh

So yea, that’s now a thing.

Link to a short as PH can’t embed them.

That's insane.

Nice Lamborghini inspired design too.

Credit where due, the tech is off the scale.

'Basic' Performance model has 4.5 tonnes of active downforce.

Thrust adds 800kg longitudinal cold-gas thrust for 0-60 in 0.8 sec.

Rocket adds vertical and lateral thrusters for jumps and limited flight capability - KITT is real!

Is it real, or just a fancy drone being operated by someone off stage?

Say what you like about Musk, but one has to admire him for pushing the engineering boundaries. He promised flying car and - notwithstanding the delays - he’s delivered one.

Does anyone need it? No. Is it good that it exists? Yes (in my opinion). Is it likely the tech involved will end up benefiting us more widely than just as a toy for billionaires? I expect so.

Sometimes mankind just has to make/do stuff because ‘why not?’

Pretty mad. He steals headlines for the wrong reason about 90% of the time. The last 10% is worthy.

It's one of the only times I've said "what the fk" out loud while watching something.

But...... it's a marketing gimmick, the Tesla website says the Rocket pack is invite only (Elon with the only invite?), is only a single seater and is not road legal.

Looking at the underneath, the entire underside is an intake for the fan, where are the batteries? It probably doesn't have any - apart from a tiny one somewhere to let it drive slowly up the ramp.

Both prototypes shown very obviously had no functional suspension either.

That’s awesome, and will never make production!

I don't care if it is viable, affordable or practical.

Outliers like this are what make humans great, pushing the boundaries and instead of asking why, asking why not.

Remember when the vertically landing reusable space rockets were laughed at...

It's quite a big thing so I assume batteries behind the occupants, although it does need 600l of air tanks as well..

Mental thing. Drive by wire is an interesting choice for a sports car though, I wonder if they'll put a feedback system in

Half the cabin is gas tank and the rest is the fan. The battery will probably be tiny and only good for a couple miles I bet.

It might have a chance of winning Wacky Races! In some people’s view it’s already owned by Dick Dastardly.

Did one of the previous model Roadsters not end up in space with an astronaut dummy driving it or have I totally imagined that?

Musk certainly likes a stunt anyway.

"The cold gas tanks (COPVs) of the Roadster are 600L holding 250kgs of gas, stored at roughly 350 bar of pressure. A 100% lethal amount of damage to the human body is around 3-4 bar. If you get into an accident that damages the COPVs, they will explode turning your body into mist like an above ground reenactment of the Titan sub."
