The new Toyota Relax warranty. 10 years/160.000km

Just some news are wanted to share since it's pretty big news. Toyota will now offer a 10 year/160.000km warranty starting on 01.04.2021. The only thing you have to do it is to get a service at a Toyota dealer and you will have a warranty for 1 year/15.000km. This can be repeated until the car in question is 10 years old or has reached 160.000km. There is no catch or exceptions and no additional costs attached.
This warranty will also be in effect for all Toyotas and not only new ones. Even if you currently drive a 6 year old one as soon as you get your service done it will have this warranty.
As far as I know this is currently only available in German but the warranty documents are in the name of Toyota Motor Europe and not Germany specifically so it can be assumed this will come for every country under the jurisdiction of Toyota Motor Europe. The documents are also saying 01.09.2021 so Im assuming this was actually meant to come at a later date. Toyota increased their market share in Europe in recent times so they probably decided to not wait any longer. In case you didn't know the Toyota Yaris was the best-selling car in Europe in January 2021. A first for a car of an Asian brand.

So considering the rush I assume there will be some bigger announcement soon. This move is pretty clearly aimed at Hyundai-Kia which are along with Toyota the biggest foreign brand in Europe and their unique selling point of a 5 year/7 year warranty.

One of the youngsters Pug 107 went in for a recall a fortnight ago. Of course they did a free healthcheck and came up with £768 worth of work. When I collected it they went through the work needed with me and of course I said thanks very much but why would they pay 50% of the cars value for a service?

That’s just it - warranty paid for by over expensive servicing. Volvo tried this about 20 years ago: Lifetime Warranty as long as you kept the car. Few year back Vauxhall offered a lifetime warranty. Transpired their definition of lifetime was 10 years
