What's the easy solution for the feeble horn on the GRY?

How easily accessible is it?

Dunno about Toyota specifically, but horn upgrades are a really common mod on motorbikes. The Stebel Magnum is a common choice as it's relatively low current so can usually be used with the existing wiring, so I'd check online what current the horn circuit can manage. This is assuming it's on a standard 12V switch and not some funky CANBUS thing (the Yaris will be CANBUS but I'm assuming there's a CANBUS operated relay that gives 12V to the existing horn).

The Magnum is plenty loud enough for me, but if you want louder it's big brother the Nautilus is a two tone but uses more power. You need to use an automotive relay with it, easy to do, the relay just needs a constant 12V supply (might be tricky to find on a CANBUS car?), and earth, and a switching signal (the original horn wiring).

Toyota premium horn 08522-44010.

I put in a par of PIAA of the same type and mounted them on top of the radiator panel. I wanted to stick them down in front of the radiator in the original spot (along with bracket to suit) but I didn't have metal to make a bracket. Anyway, after about three years one of them stopped working so got the Toyota premiums but the PIAA's came back into life after some jiggling of the plugs. The difference between the Toyota and the PIAA is that the Toyota plugs straight into the OE plug (postive only - earth through the mounting bolts) and the PIAA's I had to build a little loom for as they have positive and negative connectors. So I'd be inclined to get the Toyota Premiums if starting from scratch again....

Now that I've got two pairs of loud horns I'm thinking of having both on and wiring to the battery via a relay hehe

I did mine myself as I was so embarrassed by the Yaris horn.

Original horn still in place, just used the lead from it for the new horns. No need to remove the bumper. New horns easily removed and put back to the original if required.

Lots of information on the GR forums.

Edited to add that mine are the PIAA Dual-Tone slender horn kit from Tegiwa.

It is a bit embarrassing - the horn in the GRY that is.
Had to use it twice yesterday. The taxi ignored it, the car reversing out in a carpark heard it - amazing.
Maybe I should fit a bullhorn.

I got the toyota premium pair. After about 6 months the 400hz one stopped working and started blowing fuses. I just have the 500hz one fitted now and removed the loom extension. I asked the seller about it and they claimed the horn is a consumable so wouldn't send out a replacement.

Here's mine...I had the front off to fit a Japan spec grill and Waxoyl the car, I also fitted a set of Fiamm AM80S horns, they are much better than the weedy peeeeeeep from the stock horn.

Thanks for all the replies, I was hoping for simple solution without too much cost or dismantling though.

The solution that is both the most simple and least cost is just not to care.

Can't really think of a reason a really loud horn is required.

You can get a loom pre-made.

The Toyota kit comes with the Y piece loom. It only carries positive. Negative is through the mountings. The PIAA horns have positive and negative terminals (with spade connectors) so I made a little Y loom to split the positive feed into two female spade connectors and another Y loom to take the negative spade males on the horms to the body (one of the bolts on the bonnet latch).

Check out my post above. A simple solution with no dismantling and the only cost was the new horns and a bit of wire/few connectors.

How about to warn someone that you're there, when they are doing something dangerous. The clown car horn toot doesn't really cut it.

I can only see one new horn in your pic, am I missing something?

It's enough to do the job I'd have thought.

I will press mine later today. Not had to use it in the year we've had it.

Two horns. One on the left and one on the right of the bonnet opener. Both fixed to existing bolts with brackets that come with the horns. The wiring instructions for the horns come with the horns. It needs a couple of wires and connectors making up. Then you detach the wire from the existing horn and connect it to the new horns. Bingo!

Various horn upgrade options and more info here:

Without doing it for you I can t help much more smile

Edited to say, mine have been on for nearly 3 years without any problems. Not used very much do make a big difference when needed.
