Standard vs Big Brakes Price?

I'm wondering how much the price difference is between big and standard brakes replacement?

The pads are the same, it's just the discs. On road, you're not going to need them replacing often enough for it to matter

Ok thanks, I assume you mean the pads are the same price but a different size?

I'd expect them to be bigger than the standard ones, otherwise the bigger discs would only work to dissipate more heat rather than offer any more braking strength. I'm not a physicist though.

The calipes (front and rear) are the same on both option (big and small) it is just the disc sizes that change (296mm to 320mm)
Note the knuckle is machined differently on each kit so buy the small brakes if you intend to upgrade later

Bigger discs mean the pads apply more torque to the discs thus improving stopping power.

Consider trying to stop a spinning bicycle wheel - you'd grab it at the rim, rather than the hub as you can apply more power for the same grip.

upgrade not possible without changing knuckles so more involved than simply a larger disc purchase and fitting...... so if you want big brakes buy big brakes because aftermarket support for small brakes is non-existent in terms of performance offers

Fortunately it is possible to upgrade brakes to larger discs without changing the knuckles. Just a little easier if you start with small brakes....
335mm is the max size front and rear, retaining the oem calipers (18" wheels)

Would you be so kind to shed more light on this? I remember David Pook who runs Life110 some time ago confirmed that it is not possible to upgrade from std brakes to larger ones without changing the knuckles. If would be great if there was an upgrade option to fit larger discs without splashing out on the knuckles, which I guess would cost a small fortune to buy from Alpine assuming they would sell them separately at all.

Thank you. Very informative pictures. Front should be straight forward after getting the measurements but rear seems to be more complicated. Not sure how has the guy who posted on Facebook resolved that. Do you know by any chance if he posts here on Pistonheads?
