Just checking if this is normal. Lately the car has only been taking me the 8 mile each way commute through London at weekends.

It's cold and rainy, start car, let it run for a few minutes, then gentle driving whilst the water temp goes up.

After two miles of 25mph driving, no jams, what sounds like a fan behind me starts up. It's not the volume of the fans that run when you park the car, it's more noticeable.

Temp gauge is only showing 77c at this point.

This fan? keeps going for the rest of the journey, still no jams a bit of 40mph average speed dual carriageway, back to 25ish until I get to work.

Park car and the usual fan noise starts.

It is possible that this has been happening ever since I bought the car in the summer, just that my usual driving would have me on quicker roads within a couple of miles, so probably wouldn't have noticed it.

Cheers all.

Sorry can’t answer the question, but you really shouldn’t let it warm up before driving it! That’s terrible for engine wear.

Well I meant that I'm not ragging it from the off biggrin

I start it up whilst setting music, sat nav, clearing mirrors and turning off stop/start.

I think this is normal. I had concerns over the summer with the wildly fluctuating water temperatures (80c - 108c) seemingly all over the place at random. Several people in here had noted the same and thats normal, part of the reason is because as a modern turbo engine meeting emission regs it's designed to run much hotter than you might think. The fans come on much more than you'd thing, probably because of this and being mid engined with a flat floor there less natural airflow anyway.
My fans come on after only a few miles, and are almost always on when I've stopped and keep going for several minutes after. It's always done this from new.

I think this is standard for this family of engines. My Megane does the same (same engine) as did my Clio Trophy (the 1.6 version).
