Just given the car a careful clean after a month long continental trip and time parked on the open deck of a boat in the Atlantic.

Came up well apart from one noticeable stone chip to the primer on the bonnet, a few stone indentations on the plastic bumper and this mark.....

First thought it was squashed bug residue like all the others, but they all cleaned off reasonably easily.

The area, about 5mm wide, is raised and bubbly yet rock hard. I don't think it's rust, the underside of the bonnet is fine.

It almost looks like the kind of crappy job of painting in stone chips that I used to do on my BMW but it's only come to light now, not when I bought the car.

Back then, last summer, I went over every bit of bodywork and it certainly wasn't there then.

Any ideas folks, and talking of stone chips, where's a good place to get a matching Alpine Blue paint pen?

Cheers.

Not rust but could be oxidation - had similar and seems to be usually around wheel arches.

If it is oxidation you are covered under 10 year warranty - get it checked by your dealer.

Maybe totally wrong here but it looks similar to a mark my daughter had on her Fiat 500, turned out to be tree sap that had hardened. Took a bit of work with a rubbing compound but it came off in the end.
