Half way round the north circular today my passenger door popped open to the latch, chime went off....thought I was getting a visitor.

Qas initially closed and even had the central lock on.

Closed it from inside and cracked on.

On inspection looks like handle is sticking.

I don't want to lube and inspect as I have warranty and don't want to cover up a known root cause.

Any experiences?

My '24 GT was inspected by Martins today for exactly the same problem (n/s door handle not closing properly since new). Tech said it's a common problem, occasionally can be fixed with lube, but often requires new handles (as mine does). Mine's covered under warranty.

Mine does the same thing from time to time, used some dry PTFE lubricant and it seems to work again. Mine is registered in 23 and used as my daily, I just assumed it had washed out some factory applied lubricant.

I hadn't thought to ask about warranty but will do that when it's being serviced.

There's a technical bulletin to follow as the fix for this.

Mine gets a squirt of silicon grease at the first sign of trouble.

Both mine were doing this. WD40 has worked a treat and has held up well.

Do you have further info on this bulletin (for owners outside the warranty)?

Sorry but I work for Alpine and repair methods in technical bulletins is confidential, I wouldn't want to risk losing my job.

I have confirmed that the rear wing/bumper clips need replacing with plastic ones, as this was already known and good for all parties to reiterate, to save customers needing paintwork and to save Alpine paying for it, but I can't share repair methods. Door handles also carry an inherent risk, think doors possibly flying open or being potentially trapped in a car, so this could be dangerous to share.

My Megane used to do this from time to time. It's probably the same handle.

Hi 7en, that's interesting re: replacing the metal wing/bumper clips for plastic ones. I thought the same however my local dealer has always rejected the idea. Perhaps I should push for it more strongly and get the clips replaced during my next service. I assume I should replace the front wing/bumper clips as well for the plastic versions? And does this mean that all new cars come now use plastic clips as standard?

@7en , could you also confirm when production moved over to the plastic clips? Thanks.

I am surprised Alpine don’t authorise and insist on front clips being changed to plastic when the rears are being done due to corrosion even if there is no corrosion on the fronts. Must be more economical for Alpine and convenient for the owner if this is done prior to corrosion happening there in a year or so?

I can't specifically say when it happened, it seems at some point in 2024 cars started to have plastic clips fitted on the rear from factory.

This is due to the fact there are no metal clips on the front as with the rear, the bumper pushes and clips in where it meets the wing.

My passenger door handle does this as well. Presumed I should stick some grease on it.

Thanks @7en. Mine is a ‘23 car, so I presume I should ask my dealer to swap these at my next service.

Did you manage to get them to replace the clips ?
