The other day, an A290 was parked up near me and I decided to give it a closer look. To my surprise, I found this badge on the right-hand side wing - it's the Alpine logo, but 'mirrored'. Naturally, me being Captain OCD, that sent me into a tailspin so I checked on my A110. On there it is the 'correct' orientation on both sides of the car.

It's a minor detail, but it really makes my teeth itch. Does anyone know is there is at least a rationale for this? Or is this just one of those quirks?

I think the badges on my A110 mirror like that.

Could be wrong, but I thought it was an intentional nod to the old rally and racing cars that displayed the badge like that. I remember the LMP2 and LMP1 cars in WEC did, as does the Hypercar having just checked, always thought it was quite cool myself!

I think I read somewhere that it was so that the arrow points forwards, which it doesn't on the A110. Looks wrong to me.

The arrows should face forward on both sides. Alpine make the badge in two different versions to allow this. If the badges weren’t designed to face the same way, they would only make one version.

Apologies … just checked old photos of my A110. They only had one badge design - so on one side the arrow faced the wrong way. How odd that that Alpine badges the two cars differently. I now appreciate the OPs comment. Gets back in box…..

That's exactly it - I've been obsessively looking at all instances of the Alpine logo (thankfully, there's quite a few 'Esprit Alpine' Renaults around) and until now, the mirrored A appears to be unique to the A290.

Just to add an additional point about the A110 badges. They are in fact two different parts with differing part numbers. To the untrained eye, myself and the detailer included, the body radius on both sides is very slightly different. When I replaced my badge set I wasn't happy with the fitment, knowing they were different part numbers, I the swapped sides and they fit perfectly. Fast forward a few months till I got my full body PPF and the detailer put them back on the wrong way around assuming they were the same. It will be rectified next time I'm there.

Pretty sure that the original A110's back in the 70's had 'mirrored' badges on front wings

I'd assumed that with the 'new' A110 that they were ro tight with budget to develop that they couldn't justify tooling up for different badges both sides...
