So I'm reasonably new to A110 ownership (7 months) but one thing I'm struggling with is engaging neutral so enable me to move the car without the engine running (often need to move it a few feet to get items past it but it's annoying as hell having to start the engine everytime to do this, just for a few seconds).

I've no problem disengaging the parking brake (always leave that off when I park-up the car in the garage anyway) but the specified procedures explained online don't seem to work - when I have the ignition on (engine not running) put foot on brake pedal and press the N button, I hear a faint click from the gearbox (although no N is displayed on the dash) and when I get out to push the car, it seems to have re-engaged the gearbox lock, or hadn't removed it to start with.

Any suggestions most welcome!

TIA

Meanwhile - after some try and error period - I got it.
I think the door has to be closed (or opened?). One of the two works in my case.
As far as I remember, it is also important how long you push the neutral button.

Sometimes I'm also struggling with it. Since I don't need to move the car after parking it's not bothering me.

There's a video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RAmlFjz0Ptw and also a section on the user's manual but I believe they both apply to the pre-facelift cars. I also remember reading a comment here about the difference between pre-facelift and post-facelift cars.

The last time after turning off the engine by holding down both engine button and hand brake I quickly pressed N (if I'm not mistaken you can do it in 45 seconds but in my experience even a few seconds is usually too late) and I think this time I managed. Because I didn't hear that sound after opening the door.

I park my car in a level garage in neutral and with the handbrake off every night. Here’s my procedure if it helps:

Once the car is stationary with the doors closed, turn the engine off whilst pushing down on the handbrake button.

Once the engine has stopped push the start button but do not put your foot on the brake to turn on the cars electrics.

Release the start button and then place your foot on the brake and push the neutral button and the car goes from P to N.

Push the start button again to turn electronics off.

Push down on the handbrake button as you open the drivers door (can release it once door open).

This should result in the car being in N and the handbrake off.

Hope this makes sense and helps smile

This forum could do with a thanks or thumbsup button that we can use to let the user know we appreciate the effort in giving valuable advice.

Also a ‘sticky’ thread where only confirmed nuggets like this are housed for easy referance and searching, couple other forums I use have this and it’s super helpfull
