Three of us will be first time visitors this week and I’d be grateful for any tips/ advice re getting about, stages to try and get to, parking or frankly anything else that might be useful on account of the fact that apart from timings/ cars/ drivers there doesn’t seem to be much online to give us a steer. We’re flying into Bologna on Thursday morning and picking up a hire car and we’ll be staying in Rimini- travelling in to San Marino each day.
Thanks in advance….

Watching with interest - we holidayed in Rimini last year and went shopping in San Marino.

We are going along for the first time too this year.

Happy to meet up for a beer.

We have a hotel in Rimini.

Afternoon Gents.

Assuming you all went to Rally Legends, what was it like?
How was accommodation?
How was getting to stages?
Are the locals as mental as they look on YouTube?
Did you see any shunts?

Thanks

It was okay- enjoyable but not quite as blockbuster as I thought it would be. The array and variety of cars was great and as a big Audi Quattro fan I was particularly spoilt. That said there was definitely a huge difference between the top drivers and what I’d call the gentlemen drivers.
Accommodation was okay where we were near Rimini but a good 40 mins into San Marino each day. Parking could be a little tricky depending on where you wanted to view the action. And that was the greatest issue- where to view the action. There was very little help in determining the prime places to watch so it was mostly a case of studying a map and then randomly picking somewhere that we thought might be okay. It worked on a couple of occasions but not so much on others. There were long waits for the cars sometimes and then half way through huge waits again (was not sure why- no info forthcoming).

Friday night was particularly lively and the fans (mostly Eastern Europeans) were doing their best to get themselves run over or burnt to death (flares vs straw bales never a good idea). Found the Italian fans to be good natured and dare I say relatively reserved but the Poles, Czechs etc reminded me of how Le Mans was on a Friday about 15 years ago. It was as if they were trying to reenact the Group B lunacy days.

Would I go again- yes but probably not for a few years.

As someone who has followed this event for many years it has changed considerably in recent years and become far more show, and far less true classic rally car event, they used to get a few big names in great cars, something you rarely see now, that seems to have died off a bit, probably as the cars are worth a fortune if they are even genuine.

I preferred it when it was not so much diana and Frank Kelly as the main event more about real cars, less about Ladas and Skoda with nails int he tyres

I went in 2012, and really enjoyed it.

I bought a camcorder at the airport and took a bit of video. A bit "Delta" heavy content-wise, but good memories.
