It doesn't compute to me that he was so old but then "Dear God" was 43 years ago.

Hugely successful codriver and a singular wit. After their roll which led to retirement on the 1981 Manx he was asked when he realised Ari was going to have an accident. "Scrutineering" came the reply...

Met him at a club dinner once , very entertaining. He said he’d quit with Vatanen when Ari started relying on God too much to get them through corners. Part of the hierarchy of rallying.
