are these known weak spots ?
Indeed. The supercharger tensioners and guides from this time would wear prematurely causing a slip in the timing chain, so the pistons hit the valves. Engine rebuild.
The coolant pipes and thermostat are made of plastic, which becomes very brittle, especially with a car of this age, and cracks or fails completely. Causing engine overheat/melting and a full engine replacement.
The water pump is considered a consumable so if it hasn't been replaced at this age and mileage, it can leak or fail. Again causing engine overheat/melting and a full engine replacement.
Hello and thank you for your comments (apologies for the slow response on a cycle trip in Brittany) … our XFRS has been serviced and maintained by main dealers since new in 2014 and throughout our ownership with Vardy’s and Marshall’s. Other than the usual maintenance items the engine is unchanged with no major works or faults. The rear differential was changed c 3 years ago in France returning from the Alps. We don’t like driving the car with any warning lights so any faults have always been immediately rectified. As you can see from the video there are nil faults. Observations include suspension bushes that will need changed at some stage in the future … there is a small dent on the passenger side front inner rim but this is minor and doesn’t adversely impact the outstanding ride or handling of this amazing supercar performing saloon car. Commuting to London on the M4 Ulez has never been a requirement.
