1976 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 Race Car
Discussion
It was such a pleasure to photograph this car and to experience it from the passenger seat - thanks for the opportunity James. I have to say how surprised I was at how compliant the ride was on the road too, as a race car I was expecting it to be rock solid, but it rides better than a lot of modern cars I've owned in recent years. Wish I had the funds to buy it, the next owner is going to have a lot of fun in this!
Evening! Yes, happily. In 1983 the car was brought back to the UK having been registered on 'BAOR' (British Army of the Rhine) plates. DVLA at the time in their wisdom put it on 1983 plates - YPB111Y, despite noting correct year of manufacture on the V5
This year DVLA have reverted the car to the correct age related plate. Up till then, the car has been on the 1983 plates.

Hi, FYI re race history - I owned and raced YPB111Y from 98-‘00 in what was then the PCGB Classic Championship. Runner up in ‘99 and ‘00 to John Williams SC (from memory we had six wins apiece each year) - who’s still racing in the same blue and white liveried car in HSCC 70’s road sports (which this car could be eligible for). BTW happy 77th b’day John.

Has been a great month having it back on the road.

Brilliant. I raced it in the PCGB Classic class 2015 -2016. It went well! The race number is my year of birth, so I've a way to go yet for 77

Mark Hales drove it at Blyton soon after I'd bought it - not normally a 911 fan, he loved it.
Please do get in touch - you should be able to email through my profile. Would be great to have a chat

FYI - A bit more history: - I bought the car from Martin Harvey, who’d raced in previous season(s?). I sold it to Patrick Pearce after the Aug ‘00 Croft race (and my exclusion) - a bit of a “toys out of the pram moment” as could no longer win the Championship that year with only two races remaining. From memory Patrick had the car repainted silver as he was on the podium in’02 at Spa when I won both races in my ‘74 2.7 Carrera. Can’t remember how he got on with the rest of that season as I only did Donington, Brands and Spa - then retired!
Re lap records - as ‘00 was the last year of the PCGB Classic, YPB111Y hold the class lap records at Zandvort (x2 wins) and Caldwell Park (x2 wins) too!
