Hi, wondered if you'd be able to confirm the oil consumption of the car. Know these can use a lot due to PCV valve failure but can't see that it's been replaced.

Additionally, do you know if the water pump has ever been replaced as know these are also a common fail point.

Cheers,

I have never taken the Golf on Track, I used to have a mildly upgraded S1 Elise that saw some time on track, but never the Golf, it was my sensible daily driver.

I have not experienced any unusual oil consumption with the Golf. In fact it seemed to use very little and was checked weekly, something of a long standing habit, I'm old fashioned like that...

Water pump, as far as I recall I have not changed it, but again no reason to and if it needed it it would have been done.

I saw no change in the consumption of anything really after the mild remap either. The car now feels and drives like I think Volkswagen should have made it in the first place.

I'm going to miss it but it really just doesn't meet our needs as a car to own now and we have it's replacement on hand

Hi. Its MOT at the end of 2024 showed quite a few advisories, a few of which had been carried through from previous years. However the next MOT from Jan 2026, shows a clean pass. That is great, but is there any repair invoices for those works, I didnt see them in your paperwork?

Thanks

1: door mirror slightly loose...yes well it still has the tiny 1/8 inch of movement it's always had...it still parks and deploys exactly like it always has. The mirror moves and heats and it doesn't wobble in use so I can tell you no more. If it was causing me any kind of issue I'd have had it fixed. Just to be clear both mirrors have flown off to the four winds in the past on motorways somewhere between England and Scotland and I have replaced them both and everything works. If it didn't I'd have said so

2: lower arm bushes have been addressed. That really should be in the service history somewhere. If not then I'll have to assume that the next tester wasn't so picky. But then this tester was worried about a non issue on a door mirror, so...

3: Mot tester was right on welded repair on the wheels. I had them repaired, so indeed they are repaired. I had them fixed and they are sound, Hold pressure and I have done thousands of miles since with no issue. I check tyre pressure weekly and before any long journey. I'm happy to report the repair was excellent.

4: Tyres? Well The car is on a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 5 s that I had put on before driving to the West coast of Scotland for my son's wedding last July. I think the receipt is in the history of the car so that closes this point I hope.

5: in the service history of the car there's a receipt for new rear discs... obviously new rear pads were fitted at this time. No one should ever put old pads on new discs, this would be a pointless false economy. Anyway it has been done and I have no alert on the dashboard as can be seen

As a general comment I'm happy to note that I have done my best to maintain this car and keep it on point so to speak

I ran this as a fun daily driver alongside an Elise which was for fun and Sunny day driving and we had the luxury of another car for tedious stuff like shopping etc

Overall this is one of the best cars I've owned. As a package it's for sure quicker than an E36 M3 I had and better than the the Mk 5 GTi it replaced. It has never had the agility and feel of an Elise, but nothing else really does, very few things, but it's broad spread of talents make an exceptional package in my view, even compared to my son's old R26 F1 Megane, great though that car was. However I have moved on and bought a car more suitable for our future needs. I hope it will find a good home with a new owner as my much loved Elise already has.

Hopefully this answers the questions. Thank you

Just to be quite clear it was the door mirror glass that departed, not the door mirrors themselves...

This happens on Mk7 Golfs apparently and good replacement glass is readily available and yes, before anyone asks, the heating and clearing action of mirrors works well like it should!

Just to note that unfortunately and for reasons that had nothing to do with the quality of the car, and totally beyond my control, my much loved and well looked after Golf R is now up for auction again. Any questions welcomed.

Hiya, just wondering why this is being re-listed?
TIA

There were issues with the person who made the final bid apparently. I do know more but out of respect for Pistonheads and the person I'm dealing with I'll say no more.

All I can do is reassure anyone interested it was nothing to do with the condition of the vehicle or any interaction with me since the "winner" of the auction never communicated with me directly nor did they see the vehicle.

I welcome any interest in or inspection of this car and, of course (!) welcome any genuine bids

Thanks for asking and I hope this clarification is helpful

thank you for your interest. Unfortunately the first winning bidder was unable to complete the sale due to legitimate personal circumstances.

We can confirm this had nothing to do with the car itself.

We have therefore given everyone the opportunity to go for the car again

Good luck with your bidding

No noise on start up, no chatter, nothing at all to report it's always been very sweet in fact. The one area where the R really feels like a big advance over the Mk 5 GTi I had before is the EA888 motor
Paint is a very small patch on the near side wing, it's an odd one I've never seen before almost like the top layer or lacquer has stretched and gone slightly matt. It was there when I bought the car and is is not very noticeable from most angles and when washed and polished up is hard to see from a few feet away. It doesn't bother me particularly and I decided that a cure might be as bad as the disease so to speak. Importantly there's no lack of protection to the metal, no rust and no compromise to the car, but I'd be less than honest if I didn't mention this small blemish. Otherwise the finish on the car is excellent. Maybe it helps I hand wash it and use good quality waxes
Hope that helps

Apologies if this is in the text, I have searched but can't find any information. Is there any additional security fitted or is it all manufacturer? Thank you.

Hi, no extra security but I will be selling the car with a StopLock Elite through the wheel device which I bought when I got the car. I have both keys for this (and for the car).
As I say it will be with the car when sold

Just to say again... this is the best overall performance car package I've owned, particularly in this mildly upgraded form

However my needs have changed I've acquired it's replacement already and I'll be happy to see it go to another owner to enjoy
