How can a 1970 car have a registration number using the letter “L”? This is wrong.

Hi Barry
The car was registered in Jersey for a little while.
They have their own license plates.
Then it was imported to Cardiff and got UK license plates, hence the L plate.

Interesting and not my experience. Our Elan S2 was Jersey registered for the first 8 years of its life but when I imported it to the UK at the start of 2003 it was issued with the correct "M" plate for June '94 although the V5 says "First Reg 2003" which implies new then which it wasn't of course.

I’m not sure why?
Got all the paperwork.
The first license plate was J8888
