The description states that it is based on a 1971 VW 1302 S, however from the underside photographs the front suspension appears to be a torsion-beam arrangement rather than the original 1302 MacPherson-strut setup. Can the vendor please confirm exactly what front suspension and steering arrangement is fitted, and whether the front beam/chassis has been modified as part of the buggy conversion? Could they also confirm that the chassis/VIN number corresponds with the V5C, how the make/model and body type are recorded on the V5C, and whether there is any documentation relating to the shortening/modification of the original floorpan and conversion to a beach buggy? Finally, if possible, could they provide a couple of photographs showing the steering box/linkage and pedal/master-cylinder arrangement,
Regarding the chassis/VIN, V5C details and the history of the conversion, the information on the listing is the best that I have available. I appreciate that these are important questions when buying a car like this, and I would much rather be completely honest about what I do and don’t know than give you an answer that may not be technically correct.
I should explain that I’m not mechanically minded and I’m certainly not an expert on VW-based beach buggies, so I wouldn’t want to give you an inaccurate answer by guessing about the exact front suspension, steering arrangement, or any modifications that may have been made during the conversion.
What I can say is that the car has always been looked after properly during my ownership. Whenever mechanical work or servicing has been required, I have always used people who are experienced with these types of cars, and I have never knowingly compromised on the quality of the work or parts. I have always been of the view that it is better to have things done properly and not worry about the expense.
