Every January, the National Gallery do an exhibition of Turner watercolours, bit of a queue yesterday but worth a visit. Exhibition only on every January to avoid light fading the works.

Had a look around the rest of the very extensive gallery, some very expensive stuff in there but fascinated in the different levels, styles and skills. the intricacy of Canaletto which is incredible in comparison to some of the more "simple" styles. Some of which I question.

Moved onto the Portrait Gallery and again some widely varying "quality" and "styles". The portraits of the likes of Dr Sue Black, Nicola Benedetti and Doddie Weir are incredible for their likeness and detail, others like the one of Sean Connery look like, to me, a schoolboys work. There's currently an exhibition of photographs taken by Alfred Buckham, mostly aerial photograph while standing up in the cockpit of a biplane.

Two great places to visit if you're every in Edinburgh.
