Latest regs are all (reasonably) straightforward in ascertaining what you can and can't do to a production car before it would have to have an IVA - how does it apply to kit cars?

If you bought a kit which had either been built pre sva, or completely and successfully SVA's/ IVA'd, how much could you do before you'd have to IVA it again? I'm thinking specifically of vehicles based on an existing floorpan and setup (i.e. speedster rep, beech buggy etc) and have retained the original vehicles registration details with correctly altered V5.

Can you change to a different manufacturers engine? change a modded floorpan for a cage built?

Pre SVA/IVA, the DVLA will have very limited details of the vehicle on their database, So long as you don't take the piss completely, then what they don't know won't hurt them.

Thought as much. How about post s/IVA vehicles? Does it alter registration in any way if you then stick a different manufacturers engine and box in?

No but they may require an inspection to verify the engine change has been made. I've just had this myself.

Box is a diferent story, no need or reason to tell them since there's no unique identifier number
