Just for fun - how about an oil burning 7?

Yeah yeah I know it's sacrelidge, but this is Just for fun
With the demise of the sierra and and the increase in use of other donor vehicles (thinking BMW here!!), and the massive performance increase in recent year - has anyone (or would anyone....) consider building a 7 with a deisel engine???
I know some of the power plants are heavier - but are they that much heavier than an old 2L Pinto?
With between 150 - 200bhp and a shed load of torque for some of the modern ones it sounds like a receipe for fun - kind of
My 170bhp Golf GT TDi was great fun - and that was lugging a huge steel body!
Oh and think of the increased economy :haha:

As far as I'm aware, Westfield built the first diesel powered 'Seven' a number of years ago (mid 1990's?), usually referred to as the Westfield Weasel.
That used a Ford diesel that was modified and was regarded at the time as being quite highly tuned for a diesel engine, but only produced something like 110bhp, from memory.
The Westfield was moderately successful in terms of acheiving its performance objectives (I don't think it was ever officially offered as a model for sale) and diesel engines have come a long, long way in the intervening period, so maybe it is time for another manufacturer to give it a go?
