POST DELETION RULES?
Discussion
Clearly I am going to have to limit my input on here as another of my posts has been deleted! Apparently I was advertising when I posted that cars that I designed were being used in a new race series run by ma5daracing Perhaps if there were clear guide lines as to what is considered an advert then I could post accordingly, maybe if prices or spec or sales bull terms were used then that could be construed as an advert. If I were informing like minded people of an event they may be interested in then that seems to me to be a very useful purpose for the forum.
So if I am banned please contact me on the email for a kit manufacturer that make MX5 based EXO kits!

Just to clarify the Rule of posting in question.
The rule of posting no. 8 clearly states
"Post links to websites or adverts for commercial or personal gain. All advertising on PistonHeads must be through the normal channels.
If you wish to advertise or plug your wares, then you can contact Scott on the advertising team on 0208 267 5397 or by email at scott.woods@haymarket.com

It's a fine line Stuart for someone in your position, but I personally like your input on PH as a manufacturer and your perspective. I did not see the thread, and can understand rules regarding linking adverts outside the advert section, but if you just posted up that several of the cars you constructed we're taking part in a big race meet then that is just the sort of thing I like to hear, forwarding the kitcar industry into motorsport when it is dying a bit in other areas. You are obviously a very naughty boy.
So my next post (now deleted) was a drawing of a car asking for opinions. No links to websites, so I am still unsure of the rules on here.
A drawing is not an advert as it is not a product.
Would someone kindly elaborate, or shall I abstain from posting?
I am not attempting to "use" this forum for free advertising.
I have paid a considerable sum to the owners of this site to advertise next week at the NEC show for instance.
If my posts offend admin due to me being a manufacturer then please say so and I will confine my posting to the MEV forum.

Stuart, would be a great shame to lose your input from the forum, you are one of the small minority on here that actually talk any sense
& live in the real world.
Possibly one of the gripes from "the management" may be the number of your posts that in some way or another could be considered to "push" one of your (many & imaginative!) products? I recently asked for some input over on Locostbuilders for some opinions on bodywork updates I'm planning for the Furore F1, I wanted to ask the same thing here as more people on this forum have been critical of my cars looks - I haven't as yet as I didn't want to be considered to be advertising, (perhaps I should, I've not had a post removed, so far as I know, as yet
) I think as manufacturers it is a fine line which we need to tread & sometimes much depends on how a post is phrased as much as what is actually in it. I'm sure as well it would be possible to post stuff which might not technically breach the rules, but would still quite definitely breach the spirit of said rules.

I enjoy the scene and enjoy developing new ideas. I had hoped to develop a new product online here.
I felt it would be fun to have input from all the experts and non experts, we all seem to get on rather well. I would be flattered if people did wish to buy my new tilting trike but the real reason for the effort is purely that I fancied developing the idea for myself as a crazy way to get to work and have fun on the way. Frankly if I spent more time designing cars instead of typing on here I may get quicker results.
I posted a drawing re a new body for a X5 car, again for fun. I made the mistake of putting 3 letters that are the abreviation of my firms name on the number plate on said drawing though. It was deleted and I now "self harm" on a daily basis for the damage I must have caused in doing so!
It is not a secret what Russ or Qdos or Stuart Mills and others on here do for a living and the internet is a fun place to throw ideas about.
Tell you what though, when posting stops being fun I loose interest.
See you in a shed full of kits sometime in 2012, regards Stuart Mills

We are a decent bunch here, not out to be annoying, but your posts are continuously pushing the boundaries. For over ten years we've had largely similar rules and all we ask is that you don't post about your own company.
Posting an image of a car and asking for opinion is pushing your company/ product - that's hard to deny. Imagine if any company could come on here and ask opinion or push product, it would be chaotic.
You're not being banned, we just want you to post about something other than your own products. Abstaining from posting altogether is a decision only you can make.
Now I am confused, we all know Stuart is MEV and I personally don't give a monkeys about what he posts as long as it isn't blatant advertising. The post in question here was asking for feedback on a design by the manufacturer, what I dont understand is its ok for fuoriserie to post one of his superb sketches for opinion with no issues and its also fine for Faroux to blantantly offer his services in the topic here. So Admin is it now time to formally clarify what is advertising and what is not. Hopefully we can work it out so that the people who really care about kits can discuss new designs and projects without any fear of having posts deleted.
Personally I think this section - 'kit cars' - needs to be able to have the ability to make/take input from the people who are likley to, not just purchase a car, but build and design a car. Blatent advertising from Stuart - I dont think so, just keen to get peoples opinion on a new design - quite simple to me. I understand the rule for revenue, but this is simply a question on peoples thoughts of a concept. Rules are not 'just rules', they all need a degree of judgement. Just my opinion.
Mabbx, well said.. Kit cars are unique, we are not off the shelf car buyers, we build, design, change, upgrade, crash, rebuild, ask for input and advice. Kit cars are not Boxsters or Saxos , the industry in 2012 would be nothing without people like Stiggy. He needs input for guidance, inspiration and advice. He sells a genuine % of new kitcars in the UK, so to me what he does is very relevant to the industry and its future. I may or may not like all his designs, but I respect him immensley for what he has achieved.
I love PH, I do several PH events and spend far too much time looking at this website, much of which to my wife is utter irrelevant b
ks but I love it. But if the industry creativness and future designs cannot be openly discussed on here without causing offence then I think this particular PH forum will fade into obscurity like many other kitcar ones which have become stale. Lets see what happens eh?

Faroux is no longer advertising his services with that thread, thank you for bringing the thread to our attention. If there are other threads/posts which you deem unsuitable or to be advertising, please use the "report" function on the post.

It would be my wish that PH management and administrators come to accept that this forum is way different from your normal 'single make of car' forum. If kitcars are going to survive then the likes of Stiggy, Faroux and many others need the support of forums like this.
When Stiggy puts up a couple of designs for us to comment on he is on the edge of financial ruin if he gets it wrong and the market does not like/buy his design. At that point in time it is not an advert nor could he place an advert with PH.

I wholeheartedly agree with the above, and hope that the moderators will come to feel that this particular section would benefit from a less strict interpretation of the rules in order to allow the two way flow of information between manufacturers and readers to the benefit of all. When Stiggy puts up a couple of designs for us to comment on he is on the edge of financial ruin if he gets it wrong and the market does not like/buy his design. This part of the forum was languishing a few years ago and most of us were asking to get more input from kitcar manufacturers and professionals in the industry.
We finally got a few to do so and Stuart has been one of the most enthusiastic kitcar manufacturer in the industry, actively particicpating and sharing his ideas, views and other...
Trying to limit posting of a few sketches by a manufacturer or his services is short sighted, as this industry is miniscule and has very little chance to survive intact in the next 5-10yrs. if some creative people don't get a chance to share their projects, ideas, and cars.
Kitcar advertising on this part of the forum is non existengt and I haven't seen any in the 10yrs that I've been posting in here.
A few sketches of mine or others in this part of the forum is always just to create discussions, get feedback on ideas and have some constructive critisism on the kitcar industry.
If you see this as advertising or unfair tactics by any manufacturer , then you have very little knowledge of what normally happens in this Industry.
Personally in 10yrs of me posting in here, I've never got a design job from anyone and that is 10yrs and if I had to make a business case from me posting in here, then it makes little sense form me to be in here, as it's a total failure as an advertising media!!!,... but I like the people in here and have made a lot of friends and for me it's a fun place to relax, exchange ideas and once in awhile show a sketch to give back to the community what I get from others, it's my way to say thank you for the fun I get...
From the info I have, it's the same for kitcar manufacturers, so just to make things simple in this part of the forum, let the kitcar manufacturers talk about their business and ideas, news or other, because they really don't gain any sales, but only share their info and ideas on concepts and products.
Personally I think that we should all thank those manufacturers and professionals that do post on here and share their knowledge and info and not delete their posts or other, as it just deters others to be part of this community and this industry needs all the help it can get.
I hope Stuart starts posting again and all the others and the moderators understand that this part of the forum has gained more credibility in the last 5yrs, because a lot more professionals started posting and enthusiast followed soon after...

Thank you for your support gentlemen. Sadly it appears that the very interesting Foroux thread has now been deleted as a result of it being mentioned on this thread as an example.
I suppose if anyone was desparate they could ask a mate to place an advert style thread for them in order to circumnavigate the rules.
I would suggest that the moderators on here are in grave danger of killing the kit car forum. We have no stats for the amount of veiws of threads but I am guessing they are not high as the amount contributors is not high.
Can we have stats please? Some days no new threads are placed on here.
The MEV forum has 951 memebers and the highest number on line at one time is 142 in December last year. Sorry about the use of those 3 letters in caps again! I just can't help myself.
O.K so we all accept that control is required.
Can we confirm the rules or guidlines that should be applied with common sense to this forum please?
NO ADVERTS.
NO LINKS TO WEBSITES THAT COULD BE A SALES PUSH.
NO OBVIOUS PRODUCT PUSHING.
NO ATTEMPTS TO CONVERT INTERST IN TO A SALE.
NO SELF PRAISE OR PRAISE OF OWN PRODUCT.
ETC ETC.PLEASE ADD... then I make make an informed decision to post or not.
It would not exactly boost numbers on here if ideas and drawings of potential new products were continually deleted, they are of course of interest to the readers, they spark debate etc.
As an example;
I am exhibiting on stand 7021 next week at a well known exhibition centre in the midlands at a show of interest to kit car folk and motor sport chappies.
Should this now be deleted?

I didn't intend the Faroux thread to get deleted after mentioning it, I just used it as an example of what has been happening recently. As I said on my previous post I don't care what gets posted, blatant advertising aside. I will certainly be disappointed if Stuart is banned or feels that he cannot post for fear of deletion. The most interesting topics recently have been started by or have had significant input from Stuart, QDOS or Russ who are all in the industry.
