advice needed, choice of car, mev exocet or saturn roadster?
Discussion
Hello chaps (and ladies of course) I've been floating about on here for a while, but with out posting....
I'm currently looking at two different cars atm, a saturn roadster and a mev exocet (hopefully a lightwieght) I have driven a caterham before as my mate has got one, I really like the look of a lotus 7 type cars. But i could never really afford a real one for many years to come... (wife, kids, house, etc...)
so my choices are a saturn roadster.....
and a mev exocet....
I would like to hear your views on both these kits... And if you have driven an exocet and a 7 type kit.
Many thanks

I don't know much about the saturn roadster apart from a article in one of the kit car mags. From all reports both are easy kits to build based on mx5.
Personally i would go with mev (well actually i will be going with mev to build a lightweight exocet) looks different from the 7 type cars and needs very little else apart from the kit and donor. Theres plenty of kits been built and being built over on the mev forums so more information on them from builders than of the saturn. Also mev is one of the top manafactures of kit cars at present with very affordable kits for all builders have a look on there website and the owner stuart mills frequently vists this site.
But it depends on personal choice cost wise i would say the mev would be slightly cheaper but you did say you perfer the 7 type cars. If you want to start the build sone then vist both compaines and have a chat with the owners or you can wait till stonneliegh kit car show in may which is where all the manafactures show there cars.

Chris, thanks for your reply. I do like the 7 type cars, but i would like a caterham... As my mate said, I would love a rolex but would i love a fake rolex!?!?! (btw he is the one with the caterham!)
I think he has got a point, But i wonder if other people would think its a atom copy?

I can see your point both are based on other designs. The 7 type cars are very similar in design and if you put all the 7 type cars in a line they will all look very similar. Whereas the exocet even though it an exo car simialr to a atom its a totaly different car from looks and engine layout where the 7 types are the same with slight tweeks between the models.
Thats the thing with kit cars you can look at something like caterham and say i like it but can't afford it but there something else out there which looks very similar and is a quater of the price. There is something out there for everyone.
At the end of the day its a car that you want to build don't listen to everyone else saying you wouldn't be happy with a fake rolex even a caterham is a copy of the lotus 7. Look around at the different manafactures total kit car due in guide of all the kit car manafactures. Set your self a budget limited it down to the ones you like vist the compaines read reviews and get in contact with builders.
Then decide what you want and the best bit start building but read up everything and how to get through the sva or iva test.

I had my mind set on a 7 style kit car for years. Then one day i discovered the MEV website by chance, i spent all that night browsing the forums and researching the builds and by the morning had decided on the Exocet.
Within a couple of days i had purchased and started stripping a donor MX5. I think a major deciding factor for me was the MEV community, i was asking question after question and there was always someone happy to supply the answers along with numerous well documented builds taking place at the same time. Add that to the supposedly (which has now been proven) ease of the overall build - strip donor, refurb parts, plonk on the new chassis, connect everything up, job done!
The price was another positive, my final cost is looking at coming in at £3000 (excluding testing).
