Folks,

I am looking for some help and advice. I own a VXR220 but I think the folks in this forum are more likely to be able to help me. Not long ago a garage fitter damaged my interior door card (he didn't do it gov). Long story short, I had to front up for a new door card as I couldn't sit in the car without seeing the damage.

I have the new door card, but only some of the clips were in arelady in place. No problem as they sell the clips separately. Now I'm armed with a new door card, and several exta clips. All well and good in theory, but I can't get the bl**dy clips inserted into the door card.

Does anyone know if there is a technique or special tool that I should use?

The clips look like this:

and the end with the red arrow needs to push into a hole like this:

Here's one in place:

Any help or advice please?

I think that's the type where the centre pin/button are removed, the outer bit is then inserted in the door, and the pin/button bit is then pushed through the door card into the outer part than you have inserted into the door.

Inserting the button, traps the door card and makes the outer part expand and grip the door.

Does the centre button lift out of the outer part?

I could be wrong - wait for someone who really knows if it doesn't look right.

These buttons fit into keyhole shaped holes in the card. The upper part fits easily through the hole then slides sideways into the slot where it is retained.

Paul,

Nope, they are a solid piece of plastic, and they aren't quiet flexible enough to push in, even if you try to work an edge in first if you know what I mean.

GTM,

The door panel is 3 separate bits, and the insert has the key shaped holes that you describe. The main panel does not, they are just holes which are reinforced with a hard plastic insert.

The only ideas I have is either to try softening them with heat and seeing if I can push them home, or alternatively to trim the button away until it will push into the hole and secure it in place with araldite or similar. Option one may be difficult without melting or burning, and i'd prefer not to take the sledge hammer approach of araldite if there's a better answer.

Thanks for trying guys, any other ideas?

Paul.

using some wire cutters or side cutters if you like, cut a v into top smaller part of clip then tilt and rotate as you wind it in

Cerberatony,

Cracking idea. I'll give it a shot tonight if I get home wilst it's still daylight.

Tony,

It worked like a dream smile

I took most of the skin off my fingers, but they all went in eventually. They are firmly seated, yet still able to move around a little within the hole so that they'll self-centre when I offer the card up to the door, if that makes sense.

Thanks again, I thought there would be someone out there with the answer.

Paul. beer
