Hiya,

That probably sounds like an awfully "open" question. I have just completed building a Westfield Sport 2000, and although i had a few challenges along the way, overall i really enjoyed the process. The key element is that i am not a mechanic and don't claim to have any extensive skills. My Westie blog is here ( www.westiebuild.com ), so you will quickly see i'm strictly an amateur smile

So with the Westie built, i'm considering another project to keep me out of mischief in the garage. I went for the Westfield option originally, because i have had experience of "Sevens" before, and both Westfield and Caterham offered a full kit...no need to source a donor vehicle, remove and refurbish parts AND no need for me to learn how to cut and weld things that would likely be well outside my capabilities.

I'm really looking for some suggestions on other Kit makers who provide a full kit ( everything you need in one shipment + a good quality build manual). I don't want to build another car the same again, so i'm looking for advice, hopefully from owners, on which kits are good, if the documentation was up to the job etc. I'm really not too set on one particular style over another at this stage.

Any advice would be more than welcome

Thanks in advance

Al.

Mev rocket/sonic i believe do a full kit but it isn't cheap i think around 13k mark for everything but i suppose a westfield is a bit more than that.

In recent year stuart mills the man behind mev has been a big driving force in the kit car scene inventing some brilliant kits based on either mx5 or focus based. Theres a couple of kits the x5 and exocet are mx5 based and are intended for the cheaper end of the market where the sonic/rocket both focus based are more expensive but can be built for around 8k without any big mods. There is also the atomic which is bike based R1 single seater kit very much focused on track use.

The sonic/rocket and atomic can be built without a donor needed.

Whats your budget?

This is the link to the company who makes the kit

Most kit manufactures can provide you with everything you need. You may need to ask though. I think triking can do this. They will sell you a kit along with all the donor parts needed. GBS can do this too I think.

Best bet would be to choose a kit and then ask the manufacturer if they will sell you a complete (no donor needed) box of bits to build a car. Even if they normally don't, ask if they can give you a price to do this.

^^^ This.

If you cross their palms with enough silver, I suspect there are very few kit manufacturers in the current economic climate who wouldn't be prepared to source a full kit for you.

The other element is build manual, though... I know that RAW have quite a good, detailed manual for the Striker, but to be honest if you've done one 'Seven' type car, you shouldn't struggle too much with any similar vehicle by now.

The other option would be to find a car you like the look of, then see if there are any detailed internet blogs by builders - they're often better and more detailed than the build manuals provided by the manufacturers!

Stuart Mills of Mills Experimental Vehicles is offering a number of options based on the radical, new, different and very interesting MEVX5 kit car.

Based on the MX 5 donor, there are three different body styles including the Superlight, the Coupe and the Spyder.

This is by far the most advanced and flexible kit that I have seen in recent months and an exceptionally well thought through product.

Stuart is offering to build this car complete or supply a complete kit and the package prices are truly remarkably cheap. I cannot find another near this value and quality.

I would definitely have the conversation with Stuart I think you will be exceptionally impressed. He is a real enthusiast and very approachable.

The website is on: http://www.mevltd.co.uk/ Good Luck.

I really don't want to be saying this as it sounds like advertising but if you want everything we can supply a do it all set. You can have it in modular format as and when you have done things or all together, even brand new with the Deronda. Very easy car to build too
