I have an 03 Hayabusa and am thinking of using the engine to be used in a kit build. Will probably drop it into a Caterham 7 .. anyone recommend a company to do the build?
Or suggestions of other engine/chassis combos?
The engine has done about 35K so should be good for a while?
Also if anyone has done this can you give me a rough idea of what it cost to do a build

Any resason for dropping it into a Caterham? Got a Busa engine in mine, (I built it though, didnt farm it out), cost was around the 18k.....ish. However I didnt go about it in the cheapest way, lots of Ti components and pre-preg all over it. I also dry sumped it and changed the fuel system.

also have some mates with them who drive in Magnificent 7's so wouldn't mind entering too... although they may allow other marques (need to check)
How long/complex was the build?
I presume the engine is the most expensive basic component (which I already have) so would be case of putting the rest together.. not sure I trust my own build though!

AB performance will build one for you. Talk to Andy, he's a top guy and will advise on which kit, engine mods, chassis mods (in some cases), etc.

Mag 7 series take any car that looks like a 7 so Sylva Striker, Westfield, MNR Vortx, Procomp LA Gold, Roadrunner Racing, etc, etc are all eligableno real reason except have always loved them and driven a superlight r which is aces.

This was the first car Ive built, it wasnt as straight forward as I naively thought but it wasnt that difficult either.no real reason except have always loved them and driven a superlight r which is aces.

I picked the kit up in december 2006 and the car went on the road in June 2009. I have no idea how many hours it took but during this time period there was a lot of time that the car stood idle. I also remanufactured all the carbon, Dax do not offer carbon panels and even f they did it would have been to expensive, (I am also lucky in that I have access to a carbon shop through a friend of mine).
Dry sumping the engine added around £1.5k to the over all coast and is worth doing.

I know of 2 very happy Caterham owners who had Ian at http://www.forceracingcars.co.uk/ install Hayabusas in their cars.
With the used kit car Market in the sate it's in, maybe dropping a busa into a USED Caterham is not such a bad idea.. You can buy a road-registered Academy car for under 10k with full rollcage. The engine and gearbox must be worth a little sold on , maybe £1,500? So £8.5k and the cost of the busa, (which you have) install kit of dry sump system, engine mounts, gear linkage, exhaust system, new dash and a suitable tall differential would not be any different to any chassis. And it will always have the Caterham residuals(ish). I say go for it!
Have a look at meteor motorsport as they do specific hayabusa caterham conversions kits for caterham 7's, Simon who runs it has just fitted my old engine into his caterham.

For those thinking of buying or building a bike engined car (partic Busa) I understand that a certain firm will be launching a brand new Busa engined car at Stoneleigh in just 2 short weeks.
Can't remember the name of the firm off the top of my head, 3 letters starts with M! Oh and I understand there will be a Busa engined trike called Razor at the show too.

The way I see it, it's the logical step to using my current Busa whose engine is just rock solid... the bike itself is coming up to 10 yrs old so not really worth anything...
also great excuse to buy a new bike too
