OK, so ideally I want a rear-engined LMP type open top car for road and track. As light as possible as well.
Radical type ideally, almost certainly bike-engined as I come from that background.
Budget is an issue, the more expensive it is the longer the build will take me.
I'm not opposed to seven-types either, again bike engined, nor opposed to partially comleted kits either.
As form follows function, it must all go and no useless bling either.
I've been net-surfing for a few months, but any recommendations from you guys would be great.
Thanks in advance

Have you driven one? The reason I ask is I drove the westy Megabird / Busa, Zetec and their XTR2 back to back and the XTR2 whilst much faster through the bends was nowhere near as much fun.
They're also a pain at a TD because you get in a couple of corners before you are sat behind someone waiting to pass, and unlike the 7s they are ALL about corner speed and late braking.
Try and get a drive in one before you buy one, and try not to get seduced by the performance. They're a bit of a one trick pony IMO.

Strictly speaking, it's not about performance per se. I've built track-dedicated bikes and owned track-orientated production cars, it's more about form and function, building something that's slanted towards peformance as much as possible, not strictly speaking the driving experience itself. They're also a pain at a TD because you get in a couple of corners before you are sat behind someone waiting to pass, and unlike the 7s they are ALL about corner speed and late braking.

I had a life changing bike accident a couple of years ago, and am not sure I can do the speed thing anymore, but I love the engineering.

I doubt you'd be disappointed by a 7 BEC though. They are utterly focussed in that respect. The only difference is they eschew aero, which IME, takes it too far to the point where you become utterly focussed on taking the next corner faster than you did last time.I had a life changing bike accident a couple of years ago, and am not sure I can do the speed thing anymore, but I love the engineering.

The closest analogy would be running an MGP bike in the novice group on a bike TD. Epic for a couple of laps before you got sick to death of being held up and then spat off as your confidence outstripped your ability.
I was going to swap my Megabird for one before I drove it, so seduced by their looks and focus was I. I drove one and it killed that idea dead. You really should try one before you buy. Westy used to let you try their cars at Curborough sprint circuit if you were a potential customer. No idea whether they still do or not?

Thank you, I do appreciate the advise. I don't think Westfield produce the XTR anymore though. The closest analogy would be running an MGP bike in the novice group on a bike TD. 7 BEC would be an interesting idea as long as the engineering was good

I can't say, not had my westy for 4 or 5 years now so not in-touch with that scene.7 BEC would be an interesting idea as long as the engineering was good
I've just realised I didn't actually answer your original question so here's a few to look at:
ADR http://www.adr-engineering.co.uk/
AB Performance (of dragon's den fame) Sabre http://www.abperformance.co.uk/sabre.aspx
RCR (US based) http://superlitecars.com/
might be worth looking at the sylva R1ot or the MK midi they are not as hardcore as an LMP type car obviously, but they are mid engined and will be more similar to drive i would have thought that a front engined 7 type vehicle.
other than that you could look in the race car section of the classifieds and rebuild an old formula type car with a bit of re engineering here and there.
just a thought
