Alfa 3.0 V6 Gearbox?
Discussion
I thought this would probably be more of an appropriate forum for this one than in the Technical section.
I'm looking at building a car powered by an Alfa V6 (self designed - I've an engineering design background). (I know someone will mention bike engines as being more cost-effective etc, but just sometimes you have to go with the one which pulls at your heart-strings!) Ideally this will be mid-engined, so I'm interested in suggestions as to a suitable gearbox to fit. If possible I'd like a 6 speed transaxle, but 5 speed would be okay. I just don't want to break the bank, so real-world answers only, please. I don't know how far off-centre-line the standard FWD gearbox is, otherwise I'd ask whether an option would be to mount it longitudinally, take drive off one side of it and put it through a short shaft to something like a Sierra diff? (I'm sure someone will correct me!)
Obviously, the shorter the overall length the better, and if anyone knows of one I can fit from another car (with suitable adaptor plate)? Suggestions?

You can't use a fwd box into a sierra diff as you'll have 2 differentials in the drive line I.e. the one in the Alfa box and the sierra one. The rotational speed would be stepped down twice.
Why don't you just use the v6 and fwd box from a 156, 166 or GTV v6 mounted transverse in the middle of the car?
