Hi evreyone,

I'm just wondering I've just turned 18 and passed my driving test, and I want to purchase a Ferrari F430 replica, The replica is a Mr2 turbo 2.0 litre. Im just wondering if they're are any Kit car insurance companys that would insure me on this. Also I have seen a Toyota Celica 1.8 ferrari f430 replica, which is a smaller engine? What could be done insurance wise?

Thanks, Sofiyan!

Ring Adrian Flux. If they say no, then you can't.

Based on the fact that my 18 y/o nephew can't get a quote cheaper than about £3,500 on a 1.0/1.2 bog standard Corsa, I'd say forget it! You'd be paying FAR more than the car is worth in annual premiums.

Wait until you're older and have built-up a 2-3 years no claims.

and ask yourself why you want a replica, if its because you want people to think you have a Ferrari then be under no illusions, anyone with half a brain will spot it's not immediately.

Kit car insurance can be cheaper for the less experienced driver, providing they actually built the car.

Insurance is all about probability. Someone who has spent time and money building a car are less likely to be involved in an accident.

You might as well try to insure an MR2 turbo with a body kit because that's essentially what it is. It's not a kit car, it's a body kit - albeit a very comprehensive one.

MR2 turbo's require alot of respect to drive them properly, no insurance company is going to touch you. Again, the Celica is a body kit which thanks to the Max Power era is going to cost you a fortune to insure.

Stick to a 1.0 fiesta, work hard and buy a real Ferrari later on.

I bought my Lomax @18 years old and i couldn't get insurance until i was 20. My dad was insured for the first two years which cost him circa £100pa. Its just under £500 for both me and my old man @ 3500miles garaged, this year went up about a fiver to last year.

I'm nearly 22 y/o now and i have loved every single mile!

Try 2gether insurance. http://www.2getherinsurance.com.

I'd never heard of them before about a month ago when a work colleague recommended them but they came in a whole £200 under Flux on a Boxtser 3.2S quote - and they have a nice little excess indemnity scheme whereby you pay, for my quote, £29.99 which protects your excess. In other words for an extra £30 you have no excess.

Don't worry about semantics of "is it a rebodied MR2 or kitcar" - tell them it's a ferrari replica - they know what it is already as they insure plenty of them. You'd be better off going for a V6 conversion though than a turbo and in all honesty it won't cost any more insurance wise, may actually be less. The 4 pot turbo is plenty powerful but doesn't sound remotely right. Now, plenty of people will tell you that a V6 won't sound anything like a Fezza V8 (I used to think that) but, they can be made to give a very convincing howl with the right exhaust (a grands worth of Heywood and Scott's finest does wonders for the Toyota 3.0 V6 which is a proper little screamer at just over 7k redline). Remember the Fezza V8 is flat plane crank and so doesn't sound anything like a traditional V8 in the first place. I know this will cause arguments but trust me - as someone who has first hand experience and via reactions of mates and bystanders - it really can carry it off unless someone is ultra familiar with 355 tone.

Finally, debadge it - the agro that comes with prancing horses isn't worth it. They never stand up to close scrutiny anyway - F replicas seem to have some of the worst GRP in the kitcar industry.

Even if I could afford it the way people treat F badged car on the road defies description in some cases!

2gether are one of the worse insurance companies around when it comes to admin and customer service, I'd hate to have to make a claim with them. Did you even know it was possible to take out cover than have incorrect policy documents sent out 3 times?

DNA have a forum - http://www.dnaoc.co.uk/index.php?action=stats , Extreme have a forum - www.extremeoc.co.uk - but's it's by referal only and pretty quiet and finally there's the "lively" madmechanics forum - http://www.madmechanics.com/forum/forum.php . All good places to discuss modern F rep issues
