Evening all, just wanted to throw a sump question out there and see if anyone can advise...

I've got a Ginetta G27 with a Ford 2.0 Zetec (circa 1994 silver top) with Weber DCOE 45's, mated to a 5 speed Ford type 9 box, however the standard sump fitted seems very low to the ground.

Having done a quick google I understand that you can retro fit a RWD 1.8 CVH sump to the 2.0 Zetec, which is a lot shallower. Anyone done this? Is it a direct replacement?! If so which gasket / bolts are required?

Are there any other options which are reasonably cheap which anyone can recommend?

Greatly appreciated,

Tim

I've heard rumours of people adapting the alloy zetec sump on a cvh but never seen or known a guy thats done it. Not so much depending upon engine, but its more depending on cost you have numerous options.

Scholar Engines is the cheapest route, exhanging your old unit in to be adapted.
Retro ford via (Burton) and Dunnell both do a kit approx £300 irrc.
But if you want that finishing look, straight simple unbolt and change the Raceline version is the way to go but think that was £500. Looks lovely all CNC made.

As above ^.

My 1st sump was done by a local welder - cut n shut. Was Ok & lasted a few years competing in a Westfield. However I ended up cracking it & replaced with a Scholar unit. Which I still used till recently going dry sump.

Never actualy seen or know of anyone using a CVH sump.

Hi Lee,

Yeh could you measure it up for me and I'll work out what benefit I could gain.

Are you located anywhere near the South East?

Cheers,

Tim

Thanks, like the look of the scholar upgrade. Might contact them, just wondering if the oil capacity reduced by much and what the difference is in terms of height reduction.

Have a Scholar sump on a silvertop in the Westy. Tidy job, oil capacity is retained at stock, as they chop a chunk off the bottom, but then plate out the high spot that normally takes the exhaust (I think) so it carries oil rather than air.

After modding, the bottom of the sump is flat, and sits at pretty much the same level (tad higher perhaps) as the bottom of the type 9 bellhousing.

When we had ours done, it included the modded pickup pipe as well.

Only road use, but never suffered oil surge with this sump.
