Ginetta G20 - Can it be road registered?
Discussion
Hi all, I haven't been a kit car owner for many years, but I am seriously considering selling my Duratec Elise S1 and like the G20 race cars. I know they did a road car variant, does anyone know if the race cars can be road registered?
From my old experience of the SVA test, I would think the cars would be OK, with items such as horn, etc fitted. May even need a rewire for all sundry items such as indicators etc, I haven't got that far to understand them yet.

I don't know the vehicle but anything is possible if you are prepared to throw enough time and money at it.
The IVA manual is available online (follow link at top of this section) but is one monster read.
Your problems will likely be.
Noise
Emissions
Proving ownership of all the parts.
Sharp edges
Lighting
Instruments
May not be worth the effort.

What do you mean by this?Steve
You will only have a receipt for the race car with no evidence that the engine (or any of the other parts for that matter) had not been stolen in order to build it.

'm not 100% but if it is the original 1.8 zetec engine that came with the car it would have been a new crate engine as supplied from ginetta, it will not have an engine number. Well one of my friends that used to take part in the series when it was first introduced didn't have an engine number.
It was designed to pass SVA, so you shouldn't have too many issues, I put a road going car through a few years ago and it was straight forward. You would need to look carefully at the roll cage I expect and how the interior has gone together, most of the race cars have fuel and brake lines inside the car for obvious reasons and quick release bonnet catches etc which probably wouldn't pass, all easy stuff to fix. Lights are easy, and I know some of the race cars were built with a full road car loom and just not connected up,
Fuel and brake inside the car is fine most kit cars do this
The main consideration is E or BS marked fuel pipes if rubber or braided, copper or steel fuel is ok unmarked.
P clip spacing to be 300mm or less
You are better off taking this topic to Locostbuilders forum where you will get much less speculation and more indepth real world knowledge of IVA (VOSA) and registration (DVLA)

another thing to keep in mind is all recipes in your name i fell fowl of this , you can no longer submit a part built kit for iva you must be the soul builder from start to finish make sure you are in a few photos and you have not got a to profesional looking workshop as they can throw that at you as in building cars for a trade, i had to submit a iva form at a later date and i never got my recipets back after first application and allways take photocopys

Don't make you incorrect here, but it does seem a very draconian approach. If someone has completed a part-built there is no reason to suspect it is not amateur. They would be better off directing their efforts towards some of the trade who clock, or the traders who make out they are private sellers of cars - as we (kit car builders) know there is little (if any) profit from making kit cars apart from the joy of building/owning something you've made yourself.Gassing Station | Kit Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
