Jaguar D-Type

Hi guys,

Im looking to build a kit of a classic car, and the Jag D-Type seams to fit the build.

Has anyone here got one or have anything else they can recommend?

Can't help much on the D Type front.

I love the C Type and nearly built one instead of the Westfield XI that I went for in the end. Still could be tempted out and into a Suffolk C Type if I can find the spare £40k. Jaguar replicas are going to be costly to do properly.

The Realm C Type I went for a spin in was lovely, sound and smell was as close to a Spitfire as you're going to get on the road and IIRC they do a D Type as well. Look up the C Type Dawn Patrol on Youtube for some inspiration.

I've got a Ram (now Realm) D-Type, I wouldn't call it a kit car as there is very little that'll fit together as a kit would. You could end up making a lot of stuff yourself or having to make other parts fit. Do your research carefully before you commit to anything.

Hi Jagracer. I am considering a Realm XKSS next year (if the economy behaves itself for two minutes!). I've been to see Mr. Cocking and "kicked the tyres", but I'm very interested in your experience of your D type as an actual owner. How was it to build and what's it like to live with?

Where to start, I've owned it about 17 years and bought it as apart finished project. I was basically an LR Roadsters body and someone had made their own chassis for it. I didn't do my homework before buying it and when I realised what I'd got I ended up going to Adrian to see what I could do. I ended up with a brand new Ram chassis and he also fitted the proper interior to the body. It took me about 2 years to get it on the road and this was on a very tight budget as I didn't have a lot of money at the time. I used it on the road for a couple of years but then started racing it as it's not the type of car you can just get in and drive for fun, every trip seemed like a mission to get going.
I've raced it now for 12 years and It's been great fun, I've found out a lot about the car, it has a lot of quirks such as the chassis isn't as well made as you're led to believe. All problems have a get round however but you need to do your homework.
There are alternatives, Revival Motorsport will do you a car but at a price although it is worth talking to the companies owner John Arnold if you are interested.
There are one or two other points I'd be happy to discuss via email but not on open forum. Any info about the build and running the car I'd be happy to give you on here.

If you just want something fun and cheap that you can build yourself and not worry about, this could be a good start?
