Hi here's a pic of the Lotus 7 lookalike i've built for my Grandaughter from a set of plans from lightning cars. Its Electric drill powered and constructed from a kitchen swing bin and MDF !

Looking good! Does it get up to a reasonable speed?

I remember PH doing an article on this a few years ago. Always meant to buy the plans but never got round to it. My mate bought the plans then tried to use the option to buy all the parts from lightning cars but they never replied - I don't think they were ready for the rush once PH advertised them. How much did it all cost in the end if you don't mind me asking?

Walking pace although Grandaughter abit wary of it at the moment. I only bought the wheels off lightening cars and changed one or two things as i went along, i would imagine it cost around £200

Very nice build quality thumbup

Have acquired the plans and am on the parts acquisition trail at the moment. My 13 year old son and I plan to build one for my three year old nephew.

I may tap you up for tech support... wink

Excellent. Almost looks IVA friendly too wink

Once spent a very long time making a mini-Doctor Who style car for a friends kids. Got a great shot somewhere of it sat on the roof bars atop the trusty old 2.8 Capri I used to own.

It was entirely MDF with a few fabricated steel bits in it. Front steering was some wiper mechanism or other. Can't recall what it was now, but it was neat.

Thanks, you tend to get carried away with these projects and end up adding or modifiying things as you go along, be good to see your project

BH,

If I could take you up on your offer of tech support;

1. I assume that you purchased your wheels from Lightning Cars; did you go for any of the other fixing packs?

2. What did you use to etch/prime and then top coat the plastic components?

Ta smile

hi i did purchase the wheels from kightning cars @£40 everything else i sourced muyself.I used a plastic primer and cellulose top coat from an automotive paint supplier followed by several layers of lacquer from aerosols. I modified the steering to use rods rather than a cable as this seemed abit hit and miss. Hope this helps
