GT 40 Replicas
Discussion
I have done alllllllllloooooot of research on this and have an order placed with SouthernGT for chassis number 18, and I feel 100% sure I have made the right choice. The chassis is truly first class and built by a great team who by all accounts go out of their way to help their customers from start to finish, they can supply all of the components required and even use original GT40 uprights.
Some pics of mine here.....

The alternatives are Tornado or GTforté both of which are of a very similar design, some might say to similar
to each other. Tornado has produced many many good cars where as GTForté are yet to have a car finished so is very much an unknown, but in my opinion the SGT exceeds them both.
Hope that helps for a start but feel free to pick my brains I will gladly pass on the knowledge I have gained.

If you want to be a bit different and have fairly deep pockets (for a GT40 project that is) then Tornado do a Carbon Fibre monocoque tub and also an aluminium folded one rather than the usual spaceframe.

My lottery car (one of them) would be a light weight CF Tornado TS40 with a BMW 5.0l M5 v10 engine screaming in the back, some may say sacrilege be I'd say progress !!!

OK thank you for the answers thus far.
I saw on the GT40's forum that there may be some issue between the Tornado & the GTforte.
I have looked through the SGT website & everything looks impressive. What I can't see is what the body work on any of the cars in the bare grp. I have seen some pics on the GT40s forum of a forte body in the early stages of a build.
Which has the best fitting body work of the 3 & requires the least work to get it up to paint shop stage for arguments sake.
Whilst the SGT looks very impressive the price list also looks like it could run away with you too, The tornado starter package (for the spaceframe version) looks very good value indeed but I guess there are along list of extras which will push the cost skywards too?
What do you people who are either building or planning estimate the build costs to be for the cars mentioned?

SGT use Lee Dawson to do their body shells so no worries there and by all account they fit very well, I have spoken to Lee and they come in a grey/green gelcoat and can be modified to your requirements, Gulf arches, single vent etc.... I know Mick at SGT will be biased but he has shown me some his competitors body's and his do seem to compare very favourably. Def worth a trip down to SGT as they nearly always have a selection of all different manufacturers cars in their workshop for completion, upgrade etc...I saw on the GT40's forum that there may be some issue between the Tornado & the GTforte.

Regarding cost SGT will initially look more expensive but when you start comparing like for like they soon even out, for example the extras of a roll cage, powder coating, alloy uprights, rose jointed suspension, the list goes on of course you can go the other way and not use the alloy uprights and fit steel ones with Granada stub axles like Tornado which will save many ££££'s
The problem is the cost always goes up, I was originally going with the steel uprights and Granada hubs but after seeing the alloy ones that went out the window
I fully intend to build mine at the cheaper end of the spectrum but still looking at £40k

Also try out www.cav.co.za and www.superformance.com both offer South African made GT40's and have UK as well as european dealers. Hope this helps.

This is what you want for a lottery car: http://gelscoemotorsport.com/?page_id=363. Or of course just buy the real thing.http://www.tornadosportscars.com/GT40/GT40Chassis....

Probably best to decide on what spec/style of car you are looking for and how authentic it has to be and then download all of the price lists from the web and build up from there. If you are spending that sort of money then I'd be looking at this very hard, build yourself a spreadsheet with every component on it and build up from price lists and catalogues, exploring options, do the calculations and see how big a gasp you take in at the end !
Options may include -
- space frame tornado with a 300HP chevy V8, UN1 recon gearbox and a half decent flat colour+vinyls paint job (or polished gel coat ?) and a relatively simple interior at the lower end (do not do a rover V8 IMO)
- fully authentic replica with 400HP Ford 302 on quad webbers, Hewland transaxle and top notch paint job (e.g. a painted gulf scheme rather than using one colour blue paint with vinyls for the orange) and replica interior in leather at the top end
- one with a standard injected LS3 or Ford Coyote, Audi 01 gearbox, decent metallic paint and a moderate interior somewhere in the middle.
So as others have said, £30k absolute minimum upto £100k for one built by the factory with all of the shiny bits or fully authentic bits.
Also can I suggest you invest some time and effort (relatively small amount compared to the build cost) in visiting the various factories as that will give you an idea as to the sort of people you will be dealing with (probably ringing regularly) over a couple of years and whether you can work with then and they can deliver the quality you want. I suspect there is onyl 5 manufacturers/imported in the UK of this type of car so 5 days out and £200 of petrol will save you a lot of heartache and cost down the line and make the whole building experience more enjoyable (probably the main reason I built a Fisher Fury was from meeting Mark and seeing how he dealt with enquiries and ran his operation).

Worth checking Locostbuilders for concerns e with GTforte
I know where you are coming from but there also seems to be a good few (recent) happy customers who seem to be getting what they ordered when they ordered it with support to go with it, but as with any thing in life you pay your money and take your chance, for me it was just not a chance I was willing to take but it does not seem all doom and gloom of late so fingers crossed...Has anyone mentioned Fran Hall's RCR? http://www.race-car-replicas.com/
