I imagine this is going to be a "D'Oh" moment when answered but here goes.

I have some weldnuts I need to weld on, they look like these:

Which way up do they go?

'spikes' contacting the metal you are welding to...but those are for spot welding on aren't they?

Hahahahahaha.

That'll be the issue when just buying "weld nuts"...

So I need different ones for mig/tig then?

Why don't you just use an ordinary nut? and if you want 4-sided ones you can even get them as well.

I'm sure you could use them OK - I would assuming it's not something structural, but I'd want to grind off the spikes so the nut sits flush against the panel.

I've MIGed 'ordinary' nuts onto a plate. Have also tried spot-welding ordinary nuts to a plate - that's no good!

Because most nuts are plated and if I had to buy some un-plated ones I might as well buy the proper ones (even if it turns out they weren't frown)

Moot point now anyway, I've already welded them biggrin

They don't look like they'll come loose!

I'd rather they didn't! They're going to hold my pedal box on (along with another pair).

Bolts go in from the other side anyway so even if they *do* come loose wouldn't be critical.
