MX5 gearbox, shortening the gear linkage-anyone done it?

I am thinking of putting an MX 5 engine/box into my kit car but the gear lever is 10 inches to far back. I know it is a regular mod on Ford T9 boxes to shorten the linkage part at the top of the box and reweld it on, has anyone here done that to the Mazda box to make it suit their car?.........Martin

Don't know about shortening it.

What car are you putting it into? Are you using the Mazda engine?

I have mx5 engine and box in mine and struggled to get it far enough back in the chassis.

Many thanks that is very interesting, it won`t be shortened enough for my car and looking at the pictures I can`t see how I could shorten it any more than that............Martin
