MotorsportAtThePalace & Kitcar Village
Discussion
Just a heads up that a few of us kitcar owners will be competing in this at Crystal Palace Park, South London this bank holiday Sunday 26th & Monday 27th. It is a sprint / hillclimb through the park using a section of the old racetrack used until it closed in 1972 and a great spectacle. There will be lots of kitcars in action and things for kids to do. There is a " kitcar village " too showcasing cars, it would be great for people to support it if you can as I think events like this will play a big part in the future of kit car shows in front of new audiences.
Lee, let us know what this is like - I really fancied doing it, but unfortunately I'm out on Sun & at Brands on Mon.
I assume you can do either of the days or both?
What safety requirements are there of the car/helmet or would any road legal vehicle & any crash helmet be ok? & what are noise requirements - my car is rather loud!

It is a MSA Nat B sprint in both days as well as Car/Bike show. I'm doing both days (Phoenix No 70) stop and say Hi if you are passing.

Russ, the regs are run to normal MSA sprinting rules, which means minimum national B licence and approved race suit, helmet and gloves. The class structure is a little amalglamated I think to simplify things for the public, as in all standard roadgoing cars are grouped together despite their engine size. But in reality it does not really matter as it is so tight and twisty in places that the heavy big bangers cannot use their power advantage. Keeps things nice and close.
However, the fastest cars around there are frighteningly quick and you can stand VERY close to the action, particularly entry to the hairpin.
If any PH'ers are attending I will be competing on the Sunday, no.36 black '71 mini ( my Phoenix is have a nut and bolt rebuild )

Hi all, the "kit car village" was my idea. After visiting the event for the last 2 years and having strong ties with the area as a young man I thought it would be a great idea to invite a number of kit car manufacturers to this event to exhibit. Unfortunately its hasn't quiet gone to plan this year, its going to be more of a Great British Sports car and the Kent Kit car club village this year. Thats not to say you shouldn't attend though, its a great event and worth a visit as the range of cars on show is amazing. There are a number of reasons why I haven't managed to make the vision of a kit car village happen but the organisers and I are trying to sow the seeds now to work on next years show as I have had strong interest from companies like Westfield, Vortex and Road Track & Race for next years event. I hope this doesn't deter you though from attending as it really is a great event, I'll be the one wandering around with a sandwich board with "kit car village idiot" on it,

Great idea, hope it will all take off next year, you have just given me a deadline to finish my rebuild and stick it on your stand in 2014, we can race it the day after!

The area is normally "buzzing" when Palace ("Eagles!") have been in a final in years gone by, I would think it would help the show. Lee, you're on, where will you be this year and I'll come and introduce myself. We also have a mutual friend, someone you went to school with attending the show this year, but would be good to talk to you and ask your advice and opinion on certain things if your ok to do so? cheers.
