I'm interested in a kit car for predominately road use - fast blats out over jumpy bumpy A/B's... (occasional TD's too)

I was looking at Westfield/Caterham, and then just Caterham (as they're the best, right?? wink ), but since have seen they are perhaps a little stiff being of the beam axle design, and perhaps IRS might be a more supple option for typical bad UK roads?

I quite like the idea of a 'body' type car like a Fisher, and I think would prefer a car engine type (having owned a 7 style BEC)

What should I be looking into now?

Thanks

Fisher Fury with a bike engine although mine has a live axle and was fine on the road - just back the suspension off a few clicks when not on track.

However, they are like hens teeth to find :-(

The Roadsport suspension is quite good over bumpy roads despite the design.
There is also more room for luggage in the boot of a De Dion Caterham than there is in most other kitcars.

I've driven a car engined Fisher Fury and it was very good on road and track as well smile

I went to a Devon rolling road meet a few years back to look at potentially buying a BEC Fury. Chap (very nice - posts on here, can't remember his name) took me out... all round what seemed like the south east of Devon.

Brilliant roads and beautiful landscape (middle of summer)... the ride was immense. Car was 13 yrs old which put me off

Here's a tip for buying kit cars.

Buy on condition, not on age.

and buy on owner, how long has he owned it for, is he a member of the owners club, what work has he done to the car, how long has he owned it for - what history does he have - or know about the car.

As mentioned previously, age is irrelevant in what may be a second or third car used for 3-4k miles PA.

T'was I !

At least you had a fun day out, you'll be interested to know that I had a "little off" shortly after that. Repaired it, tracked it and sold it.

It's now blue and white and will have it's new owner scensoredting bricks on a track day on 11th August.

 Hello Pete! Yes, I remember your little excursion - at Llandow?? Good to hear all turned out well. So, you're without a kit car now?

The MAC#1 didn't quite work out - just couldn't get it set-up properly which is why this second atempt with a Caterham. The 2.0 Duratec looks like the perfect way to go, but big money... we'll see

If you're looking for a Caterham, have a word with my brother Ben (Incorrigible), he's based in the South East and prepares several race Caterhams as well as road cars.

When you get bored of the power, and you always will, upgrade with Richard Wragg at Omex Technology.

Hope you find what you want.

My kitcar ownership has taken a back seat at the moment but I'm in the process of building/restoring something fairly interesting wink
