Ive got my eye on a private plate for the Exocet which is yet to be registered (the exocet).

When i pass the IVA and head over to the DVLA to register the car is there anyway i can get the private plate assigned to the car straight away instead of them choosing a plate? Or will i have to accept whatever plate they give me then once all sorted then look at putting on the private plate?

If you are the grantee of a plate and have the retention certificate

Then

You can register your fresh iva pass as a new vehicle with the registration from the certificate

If/when you transfer the reg to another car or put it on retention, then it will be assigned an age related plate

This will be dependant on what the DVLA register the car as. If it is registered as "New" then there shouldn't be a problem. If it is "Age Related" then the private number that you want to put on must not have been issued after the age date of the age related plate. If you are given a "Q" plate then you cannot change it.

Thanks for the replies guys. The plate im looking at is age related to the donor vehicle so should be fine with that. It was just the whole registering of it was a bit unclear to me.
