General Wiring
Discussion
Hi,
Following on from the wiring behind the dash thread I'd like to rewire the car.
Its currently on a well hacked escort loom I believe. As with the previous thread the wiring behind the dash is a mess with all the wires bound together and many loose ends (interior lights to name one).
I have changed the headlamp connectors to waterproof ones as the previous bullet connectors rotted off. This now makes it easier to reconnect the bonnet lighting as its just four water proof plugs.
There is also an issue with the electric fan as I believe it done not run on a relay, so the switch in the rad is flowing the full current. I also don't know (can't see) where the fan is fused due to the well hacked loom.
What I'd like to know is:
What should I run on a relay (fan, heated screen, cigarette lighter x2, headlights?)
What should be run on separate fuses (do I do each corner for lights separately?)
I have bought one of those modular 20mini fuse holder things and a 6 mini relay holder so I think I have enough room to do anything I need to with no compromises.
Don't need to worry about the engine side of things as the new injection will come with its own loom for the engine.
Thanks

A column mounted steering lock type ignition switch will carry plenty of current. An after market ignition switch probably won't so add a relay. Take the ignition switched supply and split the load between 2 fuses.Following on from the wiring behind the dash thread I'd like to rewire the car.

Same applies to the lights. Column OK, aftermarket fit a relay giving dip when off and high beam when on. Fuse each of the dip and high beam circuits, fuse the side lights.
Fuse and relay the fan.
Fuse and relay the fuel pump.
