I wonder if the PH brain trust can help.

I've scoured several kit car parts suppliers but cannot find a heater unit with separate cold air intake which would make the thing a whole deal more efficient.

Does anyone know of such a beast?

All I've found are variations on this with just a matrix out front thereby heating the cars own heat!

Thanks.

I don't understand why you think heating cold air is more efficient than re-heating the existing air in the car. Having fresh air has its merits but not efficiency.

Pretty much all of the aftermarket heaters can be housed to a duct that brings in fresh air.

Remember though that for IVA you cannot bring air in from the engine bay or the transmission tunnel as these are regarded as contaminated air sources. You will need to duct either from the side of the car or from the front grill.

If you recycle the air inside the car for longer periods you get problems with misting as the humidity (from your breath) builds up.

A fresh air inlet (with a matching outlet to allow air to flow through) prevents this.

Hi Steve, John,

Steve,

If you check out that link for the aftermarket unit above you'll see there's no direct external input for a fresh air feed or adaption for same.

I'm pretty sure they must exist.

John,

This is the exact problem with my TVR.

Thanks.

Phil

What about the heater from a production car? There are still plenty of low-spec models out there in scrapyardland without aircon.

Take your dimensions for the matrix and the heater-box, and a tape measure.
Go look for one with a control panel you like and can incorporate into your car, check it fits, and get the whole system.

I used an old-style mini heater but there are probably better options nowadays.

This is a Kitcar forum....the duct probably doesn’t exist so you make one.

Have to say the unit in your link does look rather nice. A step up from most of the units available in the aftermarket.
