Best place to find Lomax or similar for sale?
Discussion
I am mulling over the possibility of getting something like a Lomax, Pembleton or Falcon. Where is the best place to find really good examples? A kit car show? Particular club websites? Generic websites like Carandclassic?
On an even more obscure note do any of the 2CV 3 or 4 wheel kits have space for 2 + a Labrador slotted in the back somewhere?

I know I will miss out on the fun of building but to be honest I want to benefit from someone else's hours of toil and buy a really nice ready made, used, example.http://www.sportsandleisurecars.co.uk/index_002.ht...

Hola!!
Sports and leisure/Cradley motor works haven't produced any kits for a while. The last one was delivered in 2006 I believe, and the previous kit was 2004. I don't think anything really came out of the shed in any numbers since 2000.
If you want a bargain then there is one on eBay at the moment in need of a little tlc. Other good places to look and or join is the Citroens specials club, there is a classifieds section on the forum and there is also the same on Pembelton.co.uk
A lomax that needs a bit of work on you will be looking around £2k going up to £4-5k for an immaculate one with polished heads, nice interior and wire wheels etc. I'd say Pembletons start at £5-6k up to around £8-9k.
I'll probably start to think about selling mine in the next couple of years as I want an upgrade. Any more questions ask away or email me thorough my profile. 😃

Many thanks for the replies. Those Lomax prices certainly seem to be in the right area but I could possibly stretch to a Pembleton if they are really that much better? I really see these as an alternative to a nice sidecar outfit but they are rare as rocking horse poop and cost a small fortune.
I will probably think of loads of questions over time but here are some starters.....
What are the cockpits (Lomax and Pembleton) like for those of, er, more ample proportions? How much does it matter what is recorded on the V5? Should I go for a three or four wheeler? And finally, why is a Pembleton worth more than a Lomax?

A Pembleton is a much more involved build and kit. The lomax uses a modified 2cv chassis with a grp body which comprises of only 7 parts (unless you get a less common one with doors) tub, 2 wings, rear wheel cover, bonnet and 2 lower side panels. Most other things are easily transferred across from the 2cv.
The Pembleton has a custom, specific chassis and the builder gets a set of patterns to cut aluminium sheet and then they have roll, form it and rivet it into place. A lot of builders decide to use a Moto guzzi motor instead of the cv unit. As the amount of money and time invested in the build is quite high then they may as well do it in the build properly first time round rather than swap it out later. The guzzi engine also suits the look and style better too.
As they are more involved you get a much larger range of them too as different builders modify the patterns, add bits here and there or change other parts to suit them better, as well as the different chassis types that can be supplied.
In terms of size I'm 6ft 4 and my lomax is snug, but not uncomfortable. I have mgb seats in it and they are very comfy. I have had a go in a lwb Pembleton and there was absolutely loads of room in that, although the builder had fitted a lower pedal box, done a custom steering wheel cowling and had modified the chassis to move the lower dash support and steering rack. They are all different!
You could probably do with meeting up with a few people and getting a feel for yourself as well as what you like etc. A kit is only as good as they are built and maintained!
And yes, having the v5 correct is essential! They are really beginning to crack down on it and you will struggle to get an mot etc if its not correct.
