Newark Kit Car Show
Discussion
Well another one bites the dust. www.kitcarshow.co.uk
Shame - despite being 200miles from my home It was one of my fav's, especially the autojumble on the same site, won't miss the crap craft fair they had there at the same time as KC show though
It never moved with the times & needed more Participation events for KC drivers.
Stoneleigh organiser take note.

That's a bit of a shock.
It is clearly not a knee jerk reaction though.
The reasons they have outlined are all clearly valid and individually may be bearable but when combined together they obviously constitute an insurmountable obstacle.
The show has been particularly unlucky with the weather in recent years and this, combined with the shift towards open cars, has definitely slashed attendances.
As a long time attendee, both as a club member and as an exhibitor, I would like to thank the organisers for all their efforts in the past and wish them well in their future ventures.

It is pretty obvious that the Kit car manufacturers are having a pretty torrid time currently. I believe one of the obvious causes is the introduction of SVA/IVA and the inevitable costs that this has added to building a kit car. I have argued many tines that building a Kit Car even on the tightest budget and having a Kit Car completed which could recover the costs of build if sold has become virtually impossible in consequence. The coats of IVA at £450 plus the inevitable retest at £90 which is almost always needed, minimum plus VAT together with the cost of trailering the car to and from the test centre twice etc makes the real cost pushing onto £1000.
I do not think there is an easy answer to this, Unquestionably years ago there were kit cars put on the road which by any standards were unsafe. I have driven and bought many of them over the years and still own a good few, and fettled these cars into reasonable driving condition. We cannot return to that unsafe process. But I do think that the poor economics of Kit car building today is showing in every aspect of kit cars in the UK. Regrettably with a few notable exceptions the kit car business in the UK is stagnating because of the cost base increase. I can only see the effects worsening,

This building an exocet the cheapest kit to build I will have to spend 1k to get it through the iva as it's going to rtr and to get a fuel tank cover made for it. My 4k budget has well and truly been blown apart I stopped counting at 5.5k. If I was to build another it would be an out and out track weapon as it takes away the complexity out of the iva which is frankly a pain in the arse.
I think it's time for kit car show to be combined with other events apart from Stoneleigh the other cant survive it's time to move on and move to new things the kit car scene is becoming seriously stagnated atm.
