The Thruxton GT was mentioned on another thread recently and I've read what I can about it...

On paper it looks the dog's blloocks!
Anyone got more info?
- windscreen/hood option?
- engine/gearbox/diff options?

Etc etc...

Cheers

Im sure Roger will be along in a minute but, its a fine car designed and built by a brilliant bloke why not just ring Jim Walker direct and get the info from the horses mouth so to speak

Here I am!

Engines. So far K series turbo, TVR V8 and MX5 have been fitted. VAG Turbo is in build. Pretty much any 4 cylinder would go in.

Gearbox. T9, MX5, T5 have been fitted.

Really whatever you want Jim will make fit. He did try a Nissan 350z at one point.

Diff is Sierra, though you could have Scooby, Freelander BMW.

Windscreen. Jim has one on the way. Another builder is fitting a genuine Healey screen.

Where in the country are you? Jim is in Cornwall, I am in Manchester if you fancy a look?

I'm in Surrey but many thanks for the offer!

My planned kit car build is a long way off, so I'm very much at the browsing stage;

They do indeed, look great! I have a serious hankering for a 6cyl engine but I wonder if that would mess up the handling balance?

Not seen it in a kit car (as far as I remeber) but what about the Toyota/Lexus 1G-FE ally block straight 6 and IS200 gearbox ? Looks quite compact and would fit in well with the car ethos/heritage. They can be picked up quite cheaply, particularly the non VVTI version which are also non-interference but a bit down on power. There is a Wiki page on the engine.

Really depends on what you want the car for - balls out race/nutter screamer/comfy cruiser/hertiage replica/ 1/4 mile monster etc. Decide that first and then look at engines.

V6 is certainly doable. You can buy an adapter kit from crapengineering to mate a Mazda 2.5 V6 to MX5 box. The engine is alloy so weighs about the same as the MX5 engine. With bike tb's you get around 200 bhp and 8000 rpm :-)

I'm sure straight 6 from BMW would also fit. Looking at mine the engine is much further back than it was in the MX5 and there is room for extra cylinders.

I guess it depends what you want to use the car for. I wanted one for track days that would work on the road. I went for MX5 Supercharged. 240 bhp and 210 ftlb. MX5 6 speed box, Sierra lsd, 13" wheels. It's fast, handles great and responsive. Shame the SC broke and now I am back standard. New SC hopefully later in the year.

Jim's V8 sounds epic! Is very fast, runs 17" wheels and handles well. Not as good on track as the weight is further forward and there is more of it. For road with the odd track day it's brilliant! That noise!

I have just found out that both Jim and I will be at TKC Live Nov 15th at Brands Hatch doing demo drives if you fancy a go. We will also be at Stoneleigh.

all of the above please!

I'm sure it mentioned Ford v6s somewhere in the blurb...

I was thinking ally v6 duratec, with maybe a turbo if needed (seems to work for Nobles!)

If you are looking at the Ford V6 then I'd go for the Jag 3.0 v6 from the S type as it is basically the same engine (duratec) but designed to be used longitudinally and can be had with a manual gearbox, they also go pretty cheaply on a well known auction site. Note the Ford will not fit directly on the usual ford RWD gearboxes without an adaptor/bell housing as the bolt pattern is not the same as the old engines (pre duratec era).

There is a thread on here in the TVR Classics section of a guy putting this in a TVR 3000M, also know of someone looking to put one in a scimitar. That will give you 240hp IIRC. I think this will bcome a more common conversion in the future as the S Types become cheap end of life cars.

An option I did consider was 2L Duratec using an MX5 NC (MK3) gearbox.

Better still a Caterham 6 speed!

If you want info on this search Clairetoo, there are a number of threads where she had done converstion to MX5 and kit cars, these sound great on Throttle bodies and rev very well. I have an MX6 sitting on my drive as a project at the moment but just need a couple of dry days to assess what the next step is (track day as is, pull the engine and put in kit car, give up and scrap ?).
