Some owner/general advice would be much appreciated......
I'm looking at buying a Westfield in the next few weeks. Budget is approx £13k (with option to increase budget for the right car)
I'm looking at a V8 or Megabusa version, but really have no idea how they compare in terms of performance or driving experience........
I'm aware that the above will vary from car to car, but some benchmarks would be useful (0-60, 0-100 etc).
Many thanks in advance

Blimey, there's a great topic.
I wouldn't have either a V8 or a bike engine, although I see merits in both, and of course it isn't just about the engine it's how the thing a) handles, b) brakes, and c) puts the power down.
So, lets try and categorise a score card for a westy based on those 4 things.

I sold my Redtop last year with the following basic spec.
1. Dyno'd 200 BHP from a Swindon Redtop block.
2. Sierra discs all round.
3. IRS and LSD from a Sierra 4x4
4. Adjustable Spax shoxs.
5. Race seats.
6. RAC rollbar
7. Stack dash
blah blah...
The engine is the easiest thing to change, but to pony up a bog standard car to the top 4 on the list above is probably more of a priority....iMHo.
My NMS dyno had 0-60 at 3.2 and corner weighted at about 615KG. It was a beast and I loved it.
Sorry what was the question?

All depends on what you want the car to do. Both will be fast, however, the Busa will be very fast if you use the revs other wise they are a bit flat on the road. After a while even the hardest drivers find them hard work on the road.On the track different kettle of fish. Insanely fast, carry speed into corners and change direction quicker than an MP being interviewed ideal for flat out fun.
V8 a big torque monster that will cook your lower extremities and hardly ever needs a gear change to be over the limit in any gear. Lots like these for cruising cars as they suit that end. On track if it is well sorted they are very fast but will always bee beaten by a Busa.
My Two Westfields both have high power vauxhall engines, on road one track, both fast and to my mind a good compromise between the two extrems.
200bhp in a car that light is always going to be very quick.
My advice, decide what you want to do with the car, then buy that one after you have tried a few out. Go to a local meet and there will be lots of guy's who will give you a ride out.

The first question you need to ask yourself is what you want to use it for, and be honest with yourself.
If you are going to use it on the road, and do a lot of distance, then the V8 will be great. If you going to use it on the track then the bike engine will be great. 4 cylinder car engines float around in the middle depending on how they are spec'd.
These are only guidelines, because given enough time and effort you can make any engine work anywhere, but it is easier to start with a good base and go from there.
Personally, with a budget of £13k, I'd be looking for a fuel injected Duratec car with a sensible spec and work from there.
Head over to the Westfield boardroom at www.wscc.co.uk, we are a friendly bunch...

Another option is to go for something like this -http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/westfield/all-models/westfield-2000/2193396 - 60% of the cash 90% of the fun. Spend a bit on some decent tyres, upgrade the brakes and add a lsd. Spend the rest on track days and some good tuition to get the best out of the car.
