Bike engine, insurance and no odometer
Discussion
I've got a Formula 27 kit car which is running a Fireblade engine and gearbox (lots of fun!) the conversion was done prior to my ownership and the car doesn't have a speedo (I use a road angel) or an odometer.
I'm trying to organise insurance at the moment and I thought I'd successfully managed to get a policy set up through Adrian Flux but I'm now having problems as they are insisting I sign a limited mileage declaration, which clearly I can't do.
I'm sure I'm not the only person who's kit car doesn't have an odometer (am I!?) so what do others do about insurance?
If it turns out I do need to fit an odometer, does anybody have any recommendations on what the quickest and easiest option would be for my engine and gearbox configuration?
All thoughts appreciated, thanks!

One of these will do the job.
I'll leave it to you to find the best price.

ETA Should also say for the interest of others that I have put cars through IVA with one of these so they are acceptable.
Speed and odo are taken from one or more magnets glued to a drive shaft flange. Revs are just a sensor wire wrapped around an HT lead.

Beware that that is just the plastic case, not the actual speedo.Quinten said:

Dunno, but a speedo certainly is, and GPS devices would not pass IVA so I doubt will pass MOT either.
Ah, well I forgot to mention before, that I have a push bike speedo fitted to the car, which reports speeds of up to 30 odd MPH and this has been accepted for the MOT. A bit dodgy perhaps, but seems to satisfy the requirement!Couldn't comment about an IVA test though.

Thanks, I'll take a look at that. Although I'm still in my cool off period on the insurance policy, so considering the cost of purchasing and installation, if I can find an alternative insurance policy that doesn't insist on a mileage declaration, I'll probably do that.Gassing Station | Kit Cars | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
