I see the Pro Laminiate MX5 based 34 rod is still bubbling away but from what I can google it's using a full tube chassis which kind of makes the choice of MX5 as donor an odd one to me.

I'm curious to know if it would be possible to create a non IVA body swap rod - would have to be enclosed bodywork I guess. Just wondering...

I guess if it was on something like a Scimitar chassis then it would get through similar to the Ribble cars. I think these have been used in the past for ths type of car. But these days there are very few separate chassis cars (if any) so it would mean using an old car (which may have advantages, registration/MOT wise) as the basis so not getting the benefit of modern mechanicals. Other that get away with this are those built on spritfire and herald chassis. The only other way is for a complete panel swap on a modern car leaving the monocoque in tact similar to the bertini or MX350 cars, may be difficult to get the look you are after though.

Have a look at Suzuki Vitara rolling chassis. The front suspension is independent so diff and driveshafts can be removed. Gearbox can be swopped for an SJ item with adapter to fit the Vitara 1600 engine to make just RWD.
