Breakdown cover
Discussion
I'm looking for Breakdown cover for a Ktm Xbow including European cover. Ok I know it's not a kit car as such but it's not what you'd call a production car either. Just wonder whether you chaps would have any idea who could help.
The usual suspects ie AA or RAC don't want to know)-:
Many thanks

Steve I was with Axa I think ( offices in Reigate ? ) via GoCompare for about £50 on my Phienix. A dodgy £5 aero switch caused a terminal misfire near Grenoble in the French Alps, and they could not be any more helpful getting the car and me home, hotel room and the choice of a flight or Eurostar. I chose the train and had a 600mile pub crawl :-)
Watching this thread with interest as I've been looking at this myself.
FWIW I had my daily driver covered by GEM Motoring Assist until recently (got a new car with RAC cover) and I believe that they cover any car. They certainly cover classics and I meant to call them to check out whether my Minari was covered, but never got round to it. You need to pay extra for European cover, though.
I did also notice that Adrian Flux does breakdown cover - it includes Europe and is cheaper too - particularly if you are insured through them too.
My insurance is up for renewal next month, so I'm thinking of giving them a go - I would be interested if anyone has any feedback on their service.
I did wonder if the RAC / AA would cover specialist cars on their individual policies - when I put my reg no. into the AA site, it directed me to their business cover, which looked ok, but would be more expensive.

When I asked about cover with RAC they said a kit car (Ereg) wasn't cover because it was too old - I pointed out that DVLA tell me it's date of registration is 2009, although they have given it an age related plate. Bizarrely when hunting for insurance one broker told me it was too young for classic insurance 'cos it was 2009 registered. AA said it was covered for breakdown/recovry (which is reassuring as they had a guy selling their cover at the Stoneleigh Kit Car Show!)
Ive used MSM insurance before.
Just remember to take the paper part of you licence with you if the worst happens.
A lot of the time insurance companies want to try to fix your car but if you keep saying that its a specialist job they will eventually give you a hire car.
My bike engined friends don't have any trouble as its a bike engine in a car and no garage will touch them.
My car was a different story. They tried, but reeling off a list of non standard parts puts the garages off even trying after a while.
