Who said they wanted to be accurate? Why should someone have to make an exact replica? For heaven's sake it's on an MX5 to kick off with it's never going to be an "accurate" replica and there's nothing wrong with that at all.

To be fair if they lost some of the more obvious Dino styling elements like the vents beside the headlights, they'd have a nice little retro-look car that would stand up on its own. As was said, far worse has been sold in the past.

The nonsense in the advert (car is 'centre of controversy all over the world' etc) is just embarrassing though.

I think the issue is the effort that has been expended to produce something that is not quite a good design in its own right and not quite a worthwhile replica. The old Karmas show that something Dino-like can look good, the current Tributes prove MX5 can be an attractive Ferrari-like conversion. This is neither, and more a mosh-mash of discordant elements, which is why objections have been raised.
