Cat c donor car for Kit car, IVA requirements
Discussion
Hi all
I want to buy a Cat C donor car (alfa to use in my stratos replica). The donor car was a Cat C but was officially assesed by the DOT and put back on the road legally. The car has a current Mot and has been back on the road for teh last 2 years.
I want to put my completed car through IVA and have an age related plate as per IVA guidlines that allow this providing you have used at least 2 major components. I understand then that my new document will assume the name of the kit with an age related reg. number plate and will need to comply with emmision's for the year of the donor vehicle.
My question is, is there any issue in me using a CAT C vehicle for this purpose ? provided the 2 components come from the CAT C vehicle?
thanks

I've done some more research, and as long as you have the V5, no problem: http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid...
Just to clarify a couple of points...
IVA test is done by VOSA. They don't care about your donor except for emmisions testing, where it's the age of your engine that counts (not the donor age). They'll want to see proof of engine age if you want to get away with an easier non-cat test (pre Sept'95) your donor v5 won't do as the engine could have been changed (some sneaky folk were doing that and it's been rumbled). Ideally a letter from Alfa though some people have used engine number/date lists from places like Haynes manuals but whether thats acceptable might come down to the tester.
Registration is done by DVLA once you've passed IVA and thats where your donor comes in. They'll want to see the v5 and vin plate from the donor plus reciepts for it as evidence. CatC shouldn't be an issue and you should be able to get an age related reg (same year as donor but a different number) as long as you've used enough bits.

Seen a couple of reports from people who'd had trouble at IVA recently with V5 as proof of engine age and saw a report (can't remember where) about it a while ago saying they wouldn't accept it anymore. Probably comes down to your luck with the tester but not worth the risk of a fail IMO.
