I have been given a 1.6CHV engine and it would be a waste just to sell it on. Im on a bit of a tight budget what is a good kit to build on a small >4k budget.
Thanks for the help

Barring a locost, I know the Jester uses the Fiesta as a donor. You don't say you have the rest of the donor parts though.

I'm building an R1 locost and I'm hoping to complete it for between 4k and 5k.

I must admit, I've never quite understood the idea behind choosing a kit to go with an engine... If the engine were going to be a significant part of the engine cost, maybe, but choosing a X thousand pound kit because you already have an engine worth what, a couple of hundred? Find a kit you like and if you need to eBay the engine to pay for one that fits the kit.
All IMHO.
All IMHO.

I'm assuming you're making the chassis yourself. What donor car are you using?
White_van_man said:I understand that *but* there is a 1.8 zetec on ebay right now with 1 hour to go and no bids and if it stays like that then you could get it for 50 quid. If you can get 20 for yours then you're upgrading from an old 1.6 cvh to a modern twin-cam for the price of a tank of petrol. Given that you'll probably get better fual consumption from the zetec you'll actually save money in no time at all.
most kits i have seen cater for the chv engine idealy i would like to use a zetec but if i can use this engine and it saves me £500 its £500 more to spend on the build and when you have as little money as i do any free parts are good parts
Good luck,
Mark

I spent some time looking for a suitable car but with not much luck so I decided to buy the bits seperately which isn't the cheapest way but I get what I want and I don't have to dismantle an old car on the drive. I'm using the diff and back axle assembly from a sierra xr4x4 (1:3.62 LSD from the 2.9), cortina front hubs, sierra steering column and probably an escort mk2 quick rack. The engine and gearbox is from a 2003 FI R1. That's as far as I've got so far.

I bought a complete BMW V12 on ebay for £10.51...... money.
I have often seen stuff like that on eBay..... did you actually complete the deal for £10.51, or did the seller "find a reason" not to complete the transaction?
Also, did you get it in a roadworthy state without spending a fortune?!

well its in the garage... along with another one complete with loom and gearbox he had in the garage which I also took off him for peanuts.
I stripped the engine as I also assumed it would be scrap and was only going to use it for dummy fittings and spares JIC... however it is perfect condition (apart from a cams which I am upgrading anyhow) with no visible wear.
the bargains are out there.... but then so are a lot of lemmings, you just need to take care.
