Hi, has anyone any experience with these things, I've double checked all the wiring connections and the only one I can't seem to work out is the sender unit signal, the distance between sender and pick up is what's recommended (less than 2mm)so any ideas before I ring dealers?

I've got one fitted to my Teal, the gap is only 1mm

Hi Hal. Is it a Smiths unit? If so have you connected the red wire to 12v+? You need this for pullup volts on the sender. The instructions are not very explicit. I had the same problem until I connected this up.

Hi,
i'll try closing the gap a bit more and get it nearer to 1mm,
yes its a smiths and i've connected both green and red to an ignition live, BTW what does 'pull up input' mean ?
the sender unit has just three wires coming from it,brown = live,blue = earth and black = instrument
some people have mentioned the use of magnets but when i enquired a while ago ( before i started to fit it ) i was told there was no need as this was an improved version.

Have a look at greengauges.com they have explicit instructions on the FAQs. They make the smiths instruments.

I have just fitted one of their sets with no problems. I did smash the first sender due to a flexible bracket so take care. The gap is very small 1.5mm in my case.

I had problems with my Tiger speedo, Int he end i had it too far away fromt he disc on the prop. Get it as close as you can. I would have a problem fitting a sigle piece of 4A between my sensor and disc.

that is CLOSE!! I've sent e-mail off to company involved, now waiting for reply, I'm not sure I could mount the sender that close if I use the prop-diff caphead bolts as there might be too much vibration, however I wont give up just yet, thanks for the advice.
